I may be recruiting a funded MA or PhD student for Fall 25. Have students interested in the psychology religion (or intergroup prejudice/peacebuilding more broadly) and/or political psychology (motivations and effects of civil service, trust in democracy)? Have them e-mail me!
Are you interested in the psychology of religion and spirituality? 🙏 Make sure to sing up for our SPSP (in-person) Preconference! If you are an undergrad or grad student we can even cover your registration, just message/e-mail us ☺️
Registration to SPSP 2024 (Feb. 8-10, San Diego) is open! The Psychology of Religion and Spirituality Preconference (Feb 8, in-person) will *fully cover* precon registration for undergrad and grad students! 👼 DM or email me or @JanaBerkessel for registration code!
Michael Laliberte withdrew from a contract with the University of Maine at Augusta over search-process issues. He could still make $700,000 without working a day on the job. https://t.co/l2wS8wRnGe
.@SSNMaine is continuing their 2022-23 EPEP grant work. Led by @robglover2009, @LevanCarrie, and @JLaBouff, this project would extend understanding of poll worker recruitment in Maine & work w/stakeholders to recruit more Maine residents in election administration.
I'm (hopefully) co-chairing a social psych search committee this year. Where do people look for job ads? Where should we place formal ads and where would be a waste of advertising dollars? (Chronicle? APS? APA? Others?)
@jaylemeux @profsamperry Justin Bulbulia (@vonbulbul) shared some cool longitudinal religious identity & religious belief change work @IAPsychReligion using it to causally model effects of new belief or deconversion. Not sure if it's published yet; similar in design to this paper https://t.co/iRa4teqn5g
@profsamperry @ryanburge You might like @drvantongeren et al's work about perceptions of "dones" by "nones" and those currently religious. His data seem to fit these ideas. Dones want to be more like nones, but nones see them as having some "religious residue" https://t.co/L7XyLxImkF
@profsamperry ...even when controlling for strength of ones' Christian identity and politics. In fact, when politics and CN were controlled, Christian ID significantly predicted more egalitarian attitudes.
@profsamperry I'm giving a talk this week at the International Association for the Psychology of Religion with similar findings. White US Christians' endorsement of CN predicted more symbolic racism against Black Americans and less probability of donating to NAACP when given a choice...
Do popular self-report measures of intellectual humility (IH) actually assess IH’s conceptual core--metacognitive abilities? Our new working paper raises concerns.

Behavior change isn't just about asking what will make previously opposite behavioral intention change. It can be about helping people who already have behavioral intention access a form of support they need to translate that intention to action.
@samreich "I am joined today by these, two, Lovebirds. Now, Lovebirds, you know how the ceremony works, right?"
[Various protestations]
"That's right! Our Lovebirds have no idea about the ceremony that is about to unfold before them. The only way to learn ..."
