Today, Mayor Chow presented a Key to the City to Dr. Joseph Wong for his extraordinary contribution to our city and its people.
A family physician by profession, Dr. Wong has also worked tirelessly as an advocate and community leader for a multitude of causes. Starting in 1987, Dr. Wong campaigned for the creation of a facility that offered culturally and linguistically appropriate care for seniors. In 1994, thanks to his efforts, the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care was opened, and the centre has now expanded to multiple locations across the GTA.
He was also instrumental in the founding of the Chinese Canadian National Council and has held leadership roles in institutions such as the United Way of Greater Toronto, ALPHA Education and the WongAvery Asia Pacific Peace Museum.
