The Alberta government is currently announcing its plans for physician dual practice. For those who rely on the publicly funded system, privately-paid surgical care is nothing to celebrate. See my earlier video on private care or a recent commentary in CMAJ to learn why.

"Government has failed miserably."
Former major crimes investigator Neil LeMay warns Alberta’s voter data breach could fuel organized crime and mass fraud, blaming weak laws and RCMP cuts.

Why can Uber recall our in-car behaviour anywhere, but Canada's health care systems can’t share your critical health information? Find out more, including how your province is doing. https://t.co/qr4Q7NMQko
TELUS Health is hiring a “Senior Healthcare Strategist” for Alberta whose role includes:
• “unlock growth”
• “shape opportunities before formal procurement”
• “leverage your government network”
• “translate system priorities into business opportunities”
This is worth paying attention to.
What is happening to our province under the leadership of Smith is horrendous.
The damage she is inflicting on individuals and on the province will take generations to fix.
This Alberta kid is furious.
Rick Wilson claims he’s seen multiple people collapse and die inside of Supervised Consumption Sites.
Even though no one has died in an SCS.

New in the Calgary Herald:
Premier Smith referenced a $700 screening package.
I priced out the same components in Alberta.
It’s not close.

@kandrusky Good lord. In the press release it sounded like more money to pay for an expanded screening program.
Not patient pay.
Patient pay is a huge barrier to access - I clearly don't support that.
@tammym2005 If it was free that would be one thing.
Leveraging the fear of breast cancer to build support for a private system available only to those who can afford it is quite another.
I’m a climate scientist, and what I have to say this Earth Day might surprise you: I don’t care if you think climate change is real.
Most of us already want cleaner air, healthier communities, less waste, and better food. Those are climate solutions too.
So, if the phrase “climate change” is too charged, call it something else. If we all agree on solutions to fix this crisis, then accepting the science becomes secondary.

Hansard, the official record of what is said in the legislature confirms...
Danielle Smith said:
"we’re very, very hopeful that more women will take us up on paying for this option because early diagnosis means early treatment."

Bill 18 just passed. Alberta will now have a fundamentally different MAID landscape from the rest of Canada.
Patients whose death cannot be predicted within 12 months – including those seeking advance requests – are excluded.
Physicians cannot assist with out-of-province referrals.
Restrictions on “initiating conversations” risks leaving patients unaware of their legally available medical options.
Family members presence will be mandatory – even if against the patient’s or family’s wishes.
“Social jetlag is the mismatch between what Danielle wants you to do and what your body wants you to do.”—Michael Antle
He says year-round daylight time in Alberta could worsen that mismatch, raising risks of diabetes & cardiovascular disease.

Chatted with circadian rhythm expert Michael Antle about Alberta's move to permanent DST.
He says he was the UCP's first call during their consultation process- but that they ultimately ignored the evidence that says permanent standard time is better for our bodies.
