🚨New paper on racism.
How, if at all, can we reconcile the genuine insights of individualistic and structuralist theories of racism? I discuss civic virtue (and Aristotle), racial supremacy (and Charles Mills), & ideology (and Tommie Shelby). 1/https://t.co/zhgWP8iLm3
Not good to see the rise in p-tau181, a blood biomarker of brain inflammation tied to increased risk of Alzheimer's disease, in a prospective cohort (mean age 56 years) with #LongCovid and neurological symptoms

As a longtime humanitarian who has battled famines and hunger crises, I fear that starvation in Gaza has now passed the tipping point and we are going to see mass-scale starvation mortality.
A thread on famine momentum, famine response, and what it means for Gaza today.

If you think the President has the power to consign people to life in prison in a country they've never been to by calling them "gang members" -- without having to present evidence or even allow the accused to contest the accusations -- then you don't believe in American values.
"over 90 percent of people with long covid had mild or even asymptomatic infections.... only 7 to 10 percent of people with long covid fully recover after two years."

The US Attorney in DC is investigating Georgetown Law School, demanding that "if DEI is found in your courses or teaching in anyway [sic]," the law school should "move swiftly to remove it"
Federal prosecutors don't control classrooms.
It's good for self-identified US 'leftists' and 'progressives' to consider how and why they depart from international 'leftists.'
Lula, Corbyn, et al. are, as we all are, quite fallible. But falsely imagining a unified international 'left' position often stifles discussion.
Lula on Zelensky: "I don’t know the President of Ukraine. But his behavior is a bit weird. It seems like he’s part of the spectacle. He is on television morning, noon, and night. He is in the U.K. parliament, the German parliament, the French parliament, the Italian parliament, as if he were waging a political campaign. He should be at the negotiating table.
Reporter: Can you really say that to Zelensky? He didn’t want a war, it came to him.
Lula: He did want war. If he didn’t want war, he would have negotiated a little more. That’s it. I criticized Putin when I was in Mexico City [in March], saying that it was a mistake to invade. But I don’t think anyone is trying to help create peace. People are stimulating hate against Putin. That won’t solve things! We need to reach an agreement. But people are encouraging [the war]. You are encouraging this guy [Zelensky], and then he thinks he is the cherry on your cake. We should be having a serious conversation: “OK, you were a nice comedian. But let us not make war for you to show up on TV.” And we should say to Putin: “You have a lot of weapons, but you don’t need to use them on Ukraine. Let’s talk!”
