Very important and engaging @JHistoryJournal podcast episode with @nickhirshon and JMH @Age_of_Lies on the complicated history of American govt. #propaganda & enduring anxieties around #disinformation and lack of transparency today. Recommend the book!📖
Last week, @ManshipSchool Professor John Maxwell Hamilton discussed the fascinating story behind his award-winning new LSU Press book, "Manipulating the Masses," (@Age_of_Lies) on the @JHistoryJournal podcast! Give it a listen: https://t.co/AQ7PBMIMFy
If Trump had branded the vaccine the way he brands his company, and urged people to “take the Trump vaccine,” do you think we would’ve seen a difference in vaccination rates among his supporters?
Propaganda can be used for good ends, too.
A fine line separates gov’t information from gov’t propaganda. The former can bolster public trust in elected leadership while the latter breeds cynicism. Evidence for this is vaccine hesitancy, which is more a crisis of communication than a crisis of science.
An exciting award for "Manipulating the Masses" (@Age_of_Lies), @ManshipSchool Professor John Maxwell Hamilton's LSU Press book! https://t.co/2XqAYe4IhN

Jack Hamilton’s "Manipulating the Masses" (@Age_of_Lies) continues to receive rave reviews! Writing for @americanpurpose, @NickCull calls the book "history as public service, delivered with grace." https://t.co/ieOQbuLeNM
“This excellent book… examines the darker side of US president Woodrow Wilson’s administration during the First World War…Hamilton provides a detailed account of the CPI’s operations, ranging from propaganda to censorship...” Read the full review here: https://t.co/hrdRQskJeF
“…it illuminates the original sin in the US government’s relationship with the media, a foundational mix of spin and distortion that echoes down the decades to our own era of presidential tweets and weaponized media.”
