@Ninawildflower I'm a former public health RN, now community organizer & activist; I have an autoimmune disease & am parent to three children (one with disabilities); I believe collective care & community are our way out of this catastrophic event (as well as the rest of the issues of our time)
It is such a huge honor to be recognized for my work and to be in community with the other amazing women of color honorees. Looking forward to celebrating with everyone in the spring!

Hi all, this is Ady’s wife, Rachael. I’m devastated to share the news that Ady has died from complications of ALS. You probably knew Ady as a healthcare activist. But more importantly he was a wonderful dad and my life partner for 18 years. [1/4]
The Republicans are not looking for a Speaker. They seek a spectacle to hide sedition. Their main goal is a shutdown of government and services that benefit the public good.
They mask their crimes as scandal, their malice as incompetence, and people fall for it every time.
Medical professionals are not always neutral arbiters of the scientific truth. They have deep and often unwavering ideologies that determine how they treat (or don’t treat) people. As the burden of long covid grows, we must remember this story. Read more:

I’m starting to think that one of the biggest hurdles we face as a society when it comes to facing climate, pandemics and other crises, is the fact that for many (most?) humans being perceived as “weird” is worse than almost anything else.
Reminder that adults contract actual influenza, on average, once every 7 years and colds 1-3 times per year. So having Covid 5+ times in 4.5 years is a lot to get an acute illness that knocks you out for days. Even without accounting for sequelae, this doesn’t seem sustainable
To reduce the spread of #COVID19 in schools, ensure good ventilation by opening windows and doors when possible and safe, or providing adequate mechanical ventilation. Wear masks if unsure about ventilation, and encourage outdoor activities when feasible.

This article doesn’t say this but I will: Wear KN95s or better, put some air filters in some places, paid sick leave, stop making people go places when they’re sick, vaccine campaigns, stop ignoring the problems
MORE GREAT NEWS: HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra told reporters that the federal government will once again offer free COVID-19 tests through the mail.

@ElusiveRural Thanks for saying this about Binax! I have so much trouble reading them. I avoid them unless I know we do have covid and use them to screen out.
UPDATE—on @Novavax—approval might be faster than we thought:
"vaccines to be incorporated into programs immediately following FDA regulatory action. And that won’t require that ACIP be reconvened" @dr_demetre
➡️That means approval from FDA + CDC Director will be enough!
As masking policies start to be reinstated in hospitals, remember that it’s not as simple as “it makes sense now that cases are rising again.” The healthcare system is a major driver of community transmission. *Dropping masking requirements in hospitals helps drive cases up.*
Chapel Hill COVID-19 Wastewater values currently the highest of the ENTIRE pandemic: 150M copies per person, higher than 137M copies during Omicron. #CovidIsNotOver

The rich and powerful know that it's harmful to keep getting reinfected with COVID over and over. So they keep up to date with vaccines, wear masks, clean indoor air etc. But they don't tell anyone else to do it because they profit from creating the illusion that COVID is over.
