🚨 BREAKING NEWS: 🇳🇬🇧🇷👑
The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, received a standing ovation at Brazil’s National Congress after declaring Bahia the capital of the Yoruba people in Brazil and across the Americas.
The historic proclamation was made in recognition of the enduring Yoruba heritage, culture, and legacy preserved in Bahia and throughout the Americas.
Today, I received the Chairman of the Board of the South-West Development Commission (SWDC), Senator Olubunmi Adetunbi, alongside members of the Board and Management, on a courtesy visit at Lagos House, Ikeja.
We had a good discussion about regional growth. The SWDC is a vehicle for real, tangible progress across the South-West and our goal in Lagos State is to work closely to turn shared ideas into actual infrastructure and a stronger economy for our region and our people.
Nigeria emerged as the highest-performing African economy on the economic performance pillar of the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) World Competitiveness Ranking 2026, outperforming five other African countries assessed in the report. https://t.co/s8PGmiF49E
Today I met with Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), for a wide-ranging and productive discussion on key areas of collaboration between our institutions.
I commended the Governor for his remarkable stewardship of the Nigerian economy, the stability now seen in our foreign exchange market, the renewed confidence of international, sub-regional, and local investors, and the significant rise in Foreign Direct Investment flowing into the country.
This is a clear reflection of how President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has transformed Nigeria, moving it from the precipice to a point of robust growth, with much credit due to the Governor’s sound monetary policies.
At the heart of today’s discussion was the completion of long-stalled infrastructure across our tertiary institutions. Several projects spanning our Colleges of Education, Polytechnics, and Universities, including centres of excellence, hostels, academic centres, and technical laboratories, originally CBN Intervention Projects, were graciously transferred to the Ministry of Education, but a number remain uncompleted. We proposed on a clear path forward, CBN settling existing contractual liabilities and the Ministry taking on future ones, clearing the way to finally deliver these projects for our students.
Both Mr. Cardoso and I agreed this engagement was long overdue and highly productive, a direct reflection of President Tinubu’s insistence on synergy across government, making this kind of inter-agency collaboration the norm rather than the exception it once was.
The Governor has committed to reviewing our request and reverting with next steps. A fruitful meeting indeed!
So much going on at the @wto! Today we celebrated the 100 Year Anniversary of our historic building, the Centre William Rappard on the banks of Lake Geneva, named after the renowned Swiss intellectual William Rappard. This building housed the @ilo until it moved in 1975, handing over occupancy to the GATT which later became the WTO. We were grateful to be joined by the ILO DG, @GilbertFHoungbo, the Mayor of Geneva, Christina Kitsos, and Members of the Rappard Family, our General Council Chair, H.E. Amb Clare Kelly and the Chairperson of the Governing Body of ILO, H.E. Amb Matthew Wilson. Thanks also to other dignitaries, DG of UN Genvea, Tatiana Valovaya @UN_Valovaya, ED of @ITCnews, Pamela @CokeHamilton, among others, as well as Ambassadors and staff members who joined to celebrate. The occasion was also marked by a brilliant WTO-ILO joint Centenary Exhibition and the soft launch of our new WTO marketplace.
@Ellybest9@Israel_Denson@officialABAT@officialnyscng@fmydNG@ayowisdom_ Possessing a skill differs from holding university degrees. To attain professionalism in your developed skills, it is essential to obtain certification from a recognized professional organization, which will enable you to become a qualified expert.
@udaonu@officialABAT@officialnyscng@fmydNG@ayowisdom_ There is dignity in labour. According to the Chinese proverb, "Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid of standing still." It is an encouragement to engage in trading.
@Iamkolotayo@officialABAT@officialnyscng@fmydNG@ayowisdom_ What is your purpose in politicizing the Ogbomosho situation? The Intel was given to Governor Seyi Makinde before the incident happened. Why did he decide against reacting to the information? Oyo State is not covered by this article

I welcome African policymakers, innovators, investors, entrepreneurs and private sector leaders to Lagos as Nigeria hosts the AfCFTA Digital Trade Forum 2026. @AfCFTA
This year’s Forum, themed “Digital Trade for a Connected African Market,” comes at a defining moment. Africa must now move from aspiration to execution, and from agreements on paper to prosperity in the lives of our people.
Nigeria is proud to serve as one of Africa’s AfCFTA Digital Trade Champions. We understand the responsibility that comes with this role, and we are matching it with action.
Through the National Single Window @NSW_Nigeria, we are building a faster, simpler and more transparent trading system that will reduce delays, improve compliance, lower costs, and support our importers, exporters, manufacturers and MSMEs.
Through B’Odogwu, the Nigeria Customs Service @CustomsNG is modernising customs administration, strengthening revenue assurance, improving cargo clearance, and reducing friction at our borders.
These reforms sit alongside our broader digital public infrastructure agenda: digital identity, interoperable payments, data governance and the growth of platforms that allow Nigerian businesses to serve African and global markets. With Nigeria, Kenya and Morocco now piloting the AfCFTA’s ADAPT framework, we are moving from policy to practice in connecting our national trade systems across the continent.
The AfCFTA gives Africa the market. Digital trade gives that market speed, scale and reach.
Nigeria will continue to work with our African brothers and sisters to build a continent that trades more with itself, creates more value for itself, and competes with confidence in the world.
The future of African trade is digital, connected and full of promise.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
