Really niche and dumb tweet but I can't pass this up.
Congrats to Iowa State Cyclone Basketball legend Marcus Fizer on his retirement from the @OverlandPark_PD!
In all seriousness, 25 years of catching bad guys is very admirable and we appreciate Detective Fizer's service.
Another instance of Flock cameras helping to solve a murder in KC. Despite the civil liberties and abuse of power concerns, I remain strongly in favor of further Flock deployment. https://t.co/HAgcGEW9Iw
Last week was a bad one for DA Larry Krasner. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court assigned him a baby sitter--to stop him from lying to free murderers. But where did that power come from? Young scholar @benpontz has an answer. Pretty fascinating read on the "King's Bench" authority
@MarkEHartman@KCStar You think that’s the causal factor? How many fewer states now have DP? Difference in # of DP cases charged by prosecutors over time?
@MarkEHartman@KCStar I believe the defense in the Carr case advanced this argument which, when taken to its logical ends, could alleviate anyone of culpability for anything. The jury rightfully rejected it. The Carrs weren’t kids when they murdered and raped their victims.
@KCStar I’m hard pressed to think of men less deserving of mercy or clemency. Their sentences—rendered by a Kansas jury—were upheld in an 8-1 SCOTUS opinion. https://t.co/YHaOKR16st
@DuBoseDefense On any future felony? That’s a wild sentencing rule. He’d still be presumptive probation on most felonies in KS.
Trial judge didn’t even have standby counsel? Pro se w/ competency concerns is a perfect storm. Sounds like an unfortunate case all around.
@ConLawWarrior What is a “failed prosecution?” Would evidence that had been inadmissible to prove guilt be admissible in your fee hearing to take money from public servants?
