BREAKING: Montana has officially banned TikTok in the entire state, as Republican Governor Greg Gianforte signed the measure this afternoon.
The way the "ban" will work, which is scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, 2024, is that downloads of the app will be prohibited in the state, and any app store that offers users the ability to download TikTok will be fined $10,000 per day for each infraction. These penalties would not apply to users.
Personally I feel this is government overreach. Notify users of the possible security breaches and then give them the option to download it. I'm not at all a fan of TikTok but massive overreach by the government is also not good.
