@matzy_@FenrisDu@TheYankAndLion@ArchysLife@ateAfishstick Definitely a challenge, and the BH player plays the ball before Balogun steps on his ankle. However, in terms of serious four play it’s definitely a borderline case imo, and since the ref didn’t call it on field I don’t think there was enough in it for VAR to intervene.
@DanRiffle If there was no offside teams would simply drop into an extreme low-block as soon as they lost the ball. Pressing high up the pitch, ”squeezing the pitch”, would be pointless as one simple long-ball would undo the entire defensive structure. Would take away tactical decisions.
@MarkGottlieb Exactly, it’s just the nature of the offside rule - regardless of where the line is drawn you’re either onside or offside. VAR only exaggerates that reality. If you want a ”human margin of error”, take away VAR and go back to linesmen calling offsides.
@PreZnyc621@krussi34@AdmiralBear01 My point is that with VAR you’re still gonna have the same argument regardless of what the rule is or if there’s a buffer zone. VAR is still gonna draw lines with a toe either onside or offside. You just move where that line is drawn.
@PreZnyc621@krussi34@AdmiralBear01 The thing about creating a ”buffer zone” is that you just move the argument. Are we gonna have VAR to decide if a player is within or outside the buffer zone?
