Correct. The building materials were less a factor in this as it was building codes/standards, soil liquification, and general engineering issues that created such a problem. Did corruption play a role in this? Sure. But to put all of the responsibility on a few people is extreme oversimplification for malintent.
This same result would be witnessed in any poorly managed country that lacks top tier building standards...standards that exist almost exclusively in Western and Far East nations.
You could have chosen to say "I am so blessed and fortunate to live in a part of the world that has strong building codes/standards, as most of the world doesn't.".
But instead you felt the need to speak with contempt for people you don't know. Says a lot about you.
Hopefully you'll reflect on that.
@sentdefender Can someone find out what happened to this flight? It was flying at about 23,000 feet along the coast looking for an airport to land at. Last I saw, it disappeared from flight tracking over the south Caribbean near Puerto La Cruz/Cumana in Venezuela.
@jordjonespress@AustinAyers@YellowLily35@sentdefender In fairness...the Internet is the Wild West. There is no expectation of decorum here. Humans inherently enjoy doing terrible things. Especially to each other.
Land invasion is totally different. The logistics of overcoming the terrain there is incredibly, and I do mean incredibly, difficult. This isn't Iraq where you can just roll through.
Lots of pinch points and mountains to deal with.
And the Iranians are getting plenty of assistance through Russia and China, both on the ground and in space.
@TPJhawk@DzelzsChupa@SeanMcCDerry@sentdefender Name one time conventional airpower alone, without a ground force ultimately controlling events on the ground, achieved regime change in a large, determined nation-state. We'll wait.
Correct. Political suicide.
Which is why we are guaranteed to decline as an empire. I didn't say collapse...just decline. Still relatively powerful/relevant, like the British empire was after their decline, but there will be multipolarity instead of the unipolar world since the end of WWII. Especially as more and more countries, with technology allowing streamlining of payment systems and conversions, conduct trade in more regional currencies rather than using the USD/SWIFT, etc.
Air power alone did not win Desert Storm. It required boots on the ground. In fact, every single conflict that resulted in regime change has ALWAYS required people on the ground shooting at an enemy...whether that's an attacking military or a rag-tag militia.
And that's the argument Christopher is making. Which means your response is a half truth as it wouldn't have yielded the same results without boots on the ground.
You can punish from the air but you cannot politically change things on the ground without guys with guns.
@igot5onit777@krispykriskring@FrankBr05713205 Depends heavily on your current age. If you're young...yes, you will have to worry. If in your mid to late 40s, probably not as much. The trades are going to be saturated with labor potential, ironically.
@Sattv1k@ClownWorld Many Americans are spoiled brats, unfortunately. I find my travels outside the US to be quite refreshing by being around people who are genuinely grateful and understand modesty.
Those values are very rare in the US anymore.
Correct. A lot of retail is about to (deservedly) get burned. And more wealth will be transferred from the bottom 80% to the top 10%-20% of Americans who own assets in this wonderful K-shaped economy.
This AI gravy train is about to come to a catastrophic conclusion, capped heavily by our energy infrastructure, and retail will mostly be the bag holders...as they usually are.
*clutches pearls*
Oh noes! A tranny! *gasp*
Read the room, engagement bot. We're worried about the safety and (financial) security of our families. This distraction means nothing compared to what is currently making 80% of Americans poorer in a K-shaped economy.
But yeah...thanks for bringing this to our attention. 🙄 Enjoy your 50¢.
Correct. People think that being bombed by another country calls for escalating immediately to nuke usage. There is a reason these types of people aren't at the highest levels of government...too unstable/unreasonable to lead.
Russia threatens nuke usage all the time regarding Ukraine but that's purely bluster. Their actual redline is invasion of their sovereignty. If NATO invaded, they'd absolutely use nukes...that is an existential crisis.
If the US/Israel invades Iran with troops on the ground...THAT is an existential crisis.
Bombs from the air is not existential because you can't overthrow a country from the air. It's never been done in modern history.
Iran knows that the nuclear option is of last resort. They are painted as crazies in Western media but they want to exist as a nation. This isn't the Taliban/Afghanistan. Totally different outlook.
