As we celebrate the 70th National Scout Day, I extend greetings to all scouts in Maldives. Scouting was an important part of my education and I firmly believe that scouting experience is important for all. @ScoutsMaldives
Since the advent of the new constitution, floor crossing has been one of the key causes of political instability in the Maldives. From the upheavals of 2011–2012 under President Nasheed’s administration to the infamous 12 defectors under President Yameen’s administration, parliamentarians have been bought and sold at the whim of those with the resources to do so. For the Maldives to reach the status of a mature democracy, we must ban floor crossing, as it breaks public trust in elected representatives and only leads to an endless cycle of instability. This is the way forward for a better tomorrow.

No one can control what someone else says. Being cordial does add up to ‘cabal’ affiliation. Conspiratorial fantasy only negates from how horrible the man actually was. It takes away from a survivor centric narrative. The reality is bad enough. And the facts don’t change that this was a professional relationship, one that neither knew about nor sought to undermine survivors.

I condemn the military escalation in the Middle East today.
The strikes by the US & Israel against Iran & the subsequent attacks by Iran undermine international security.
These actions carry the risk of igniting a chain of events that no one can control in the most volatile region of the world.
Lasting peace can only be achieved through peaceful means, including genuine dialogue and negotiations.
The @UN Charter provides the foundation for the maintenance of international peace & security.
I condemn today’s military escalation in the Middle East. The use of force by the United States & Israel against Iran, and the subsequent retaliation by Iran across the region, undermine international peace & security.
All Member States must respect their obligations under international law, including the Charter of the @UN. The Charter clearly prohibits “the threat of the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations.”
I call for an immediate cessation of hostilities & de-escalation. Failing to do so risks a wider regional conflict with grave consequences for civilians & regional stability. I strongly encourage all parties to return immediately to the negotiating table.
I reiterate that there is no viable alternative to the peaceful settlement of international disputes, in full accordance with international law, including the UN Charter. The Charter provides the foundation for the maintenance of international peace and security.
