🌎 I had the pleasure of meeting the Maldivian students at both the Yunnan University & the Open University in Kunming, & members of the faculty.

I was particularly proud to meet Prof. Ahmed Zahir, a Maldivian working as a member of the University's faculty.
I encouraged the students to achieve success on this rewarding opportunity to study at the reputed University, experience the beauty of the city, and look to the future to contribute to the development of the Maldives once they complete their education.

Delighted that cooperation on education is strong between the Yunnan Province & the Maldives.
I look forward to further collaboration between the education institutions of both countries.

🌎Honoured to attend the Opening Ceremony of this year’s China-South Asia Cooperation Forum & the 10th China-South Asia Expo in Kunming.

In my statement, I emphasized the importance of diplomacy in promoting international peace and security and how regional cooperation can revitalize economic prosperity.

🌎Every child deserves to grow up in safety, dignity, and peace. Protecting children is not only a moral obligation—it is an investment in a more peaceful and just future for all.

Today, our thoughts are with the children victims of aggression, especially with the children of Palestine, who continue to endure unimaginable suffering, displacement, injury, trauma, and loss of life.

In the Maldives, we remain committed to strengthening child protection through measures such as the Child Rights Protection Act, the Juvenile Justice Act, the Office of the Children’s Ombudsperson, and the National Action Plan on Prevention and Response to Violence Against Children. These efforts reflect our belief that every child deserves to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment.

On this International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, the Maldives reaffirms our commitment to protecting children everywhere and call for greater international action to safeguard their rights, well-being, and future.

Today marks a proud and historic milestone for the nation as the Maldives is elected to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the 2027–2029 term — for the first time in our 60 years of membership at the United Nations.

This achievement reflects the trust and confidence that the international community places in our nation and in our commitment to constructive multilateral engagement.

As a Small Island Developing State, the Maldives understands firsthand the urgent challenges faced by vulnerable nations, from climate change and economic resilience to sustainable development. Our seat at ECOSOC gives us a stronger platform to advocate for the priorities and aspirations of small island developing States and developing countries around the world.

Together with our partners, the Maldives will work to strengthen international cooperation, accelerate progress on sustainable development, and shape a ECOSOC that will result in fair finance, stronger delivery, and resilient futures.

🌎The #Maldives has been elected to @UNECOSOC for the 2027–2029 term, receiving 183 votes from fellow UN Member States. This marks a historic milestone as the Maldives secures a seat on ECOSOC for the first time since we became a member of the United Nations 60 years ago.

This election reflects the international community’s confidence and trust in the Maldives, and the foreign policy of President Dr @MMuizzu . It demonstrates that the voice of the Maldives resonates far beyond our shores, and that our advocacy on issues of importance to Small Island Developing States and developing countries is being heard and valued on the global stage.

I wish to congratulate all who worked on this election, especially #TeamKhaarijee across the world.

As we prepare to take our seat on #ECOSOC on 1 January 2027, we do so with pride in how far we have come and with determination to contribute meaningfully to shaping a more inclusive, sustainable, and responsive global development agenda.
