We applaud today’s unanimous Senate passage of The TAKE IT DOWN Act sponsored by @SenTedCruz and @SenAmyKlobuchar. TikTok is proud to support this vital step forward in protecting victims from digital harm.
STATEMENT FROM TIKTOK:
In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.
It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.
Statement on Possible Shutdown
The statements issued today by both the Biden White House and the Department of Justice have failed to provide the necessary clarity and assurance to the service providers that are integral to maintaining TikTok's availability to over 170 million Americans.
Unless the Biden Administration immediately provides a definitive statement to satisfy the most critical service providers assuring non-enforcement, unfortunately TikTok will be forced to go dark on January 19.
Respectfully, @RepAuchincloss, there is no truth to any of what you said.
Notwithstanding the attempt to set aside the free speech rights and livelihoods of Massachusetts creators, we are happy to work together next Congress on legislation to actually make the internet safer for users - no matter what platform they’re on.
Statement on Supreme Court Order to Hear TikTok Ban Case
We're pleased with today's Supreme Court order. We believe the Court will find the TikTok ban unconstitutional so the over 170 million Americans on our platform can continue to exercise their free speech rights.
Statement on Filing Application for Emergency Injunction Pending Appeal with the Supreme Court:
""The Supreme Court has an established record of upholding Americans’ right to free speech. Today, we are asking the Court to do what it has traditionally done in free speech cases: apply the most rigorous scrutiny to speech bans and conclude that it violates the First Amendment.
The TikTok ban results in a massive and unprecedented censorship of over 170 million Americans on January 19, 2025. Estimates show that small businesses on TikTok would lose more than $1 billion in revenue and creators would suffer almost $300 million in lost earnings in just one month unless the ban is halted."
We've filed a notice of application in federal court to challenge the government's order to shutdown TikTok Canada's operations. Read our full statement: https://t.co/IQIU8adD6f
.@TikTokCanada employees sat down with @CdnPressNews to discuss the impact of the government's order to shut down TikTok's Canadian offices, which would eliminate their jobs and the work they do to support Canadian creators and businesses. Read more: https://t.co/KvoAyfc1Iv
TikTok Files Emergency Motion for Injunction
Today, we filed an emergency motion for an injunction to stop the TikTok Ban from taking effect on January 19, 2025 until our appeal of the decision by the Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit is heard by the US Supreme Court.
TikTok is, at its core, its 170 million American users. Estimates show that small businesses on TikTok would lose more than $1 billion in revenue and creators would suffer almost $300 million in lost earnings in just one month unless the TikTok Ban is halted. In 2023 alone, the advertising, marketing, and organic reach on TikTok contributed $24.2 billion, and TikTok’s own operations contributed an additional $8.5 billion to the U.S. GDP.

TikTok Statement on Court Decision:
"The Supreme Court has an established historical record of protecting Americans' right to free speech, and we expect they will do just that on this important constitutional issue. Unfortunately, the TikTok ban was conceived and pushed through based upon inaccurate, flawed and hypothetical information, resulting in outright censorship of the American people. The TikTok ban, unless stopped, will silence the voices of over 170 million Americans here in the US and around the world on January 19th, 2025."
We applaud tonight’s unanimous passage of The TAKE IT DOWN Act by the Senate. We were proud to strongly support the legislation introduced by @SenTedCruz and @SenAmyKlobuchar and believe the legislation is a vital step forward in protecting victims from digital harm.
Our statement on today's Attorneys General lawsuits:
"We strongly disagree with these claims, many of which we believe to be inaccurate and misleading. We're proud of and remain deeply committed to the work we've done to protect teens and we will continue to update and improve our product. We provide robust safeguards, proactively remove suspected underage users, and have voluntarily launched safety features such as default screentime limits, family pairing, and privacy by default for minors under 16. We've endeavored to work with the Attorneys General for over two years, and it is incredibly disappointing they have taken this step rather than work with us on constructive solutions to industrywide challenges."
