@memeticsisyphus Great line in Michael Clayton about this exact phenomenon:
“You’re not gonna be one of those people who goes through life wondering why shit keeps falling out of the sky around them.”
@RobertMSterling This is a good crystallization of what I worry about with AI. I’m pretty jaded when it comes to tech but I truly believe we are at an inflection point. The rate of change is what scares me now. AI is evolving faster than we as humans can even understand it.
@MattZeitlin@TheStalwart Grew up in Minnesota am ethnically Norwegian and when I visited Norway I was like this is basically the iron range?? Part of me feels like that’s why a lot of them ended up here.
you have to wonder just how dire norway was in the 19th century that hundreds of thousands of norwegians left behind everything they ever knew in order to forge a new life, like, catching and processing fish from lake superior 80 miles north of duluth
An advantage that the Sun Belt has over the coasts in an era where college-educated Millennial dads are more involved is there’s an understanding that family time is a priority here and I don’t think NY/SF business culture will ever accept that.
The way I picture it a bunch of pioneers were like WE'RE GOING TO CALIFORNIA and they go in their little wagons with the sheets on top all across Nebraska and Kansas and eastern Colorado and then they arrive at the base of the Rockies and then were like eh this is fine.
