@bcatleagle Great hire- with OB we will find out the commitment the University has to the football program. He can get it done if he has the full support.
Hate? I said “not my type.”
Old Mac greens are too big and undulating. Golf is hard enough without the fear or possibility of a 5-putt. If I want a putting course, I’ll get drinks, take off my shoes and play the Punchbowl. Way more fun.
Old Mac is also the most exposed and vulnerable to the “coastal breeze.”Which can be no joke. But the golf can become funny and dumb on Old Mac when the prevailing winds are whipping through that sand bowl. It seems to me, that if it’s a one- to two-club wind at Sheep, Pac or Bandon, it’s a two- to three-club wind at Old Mac. (Within the trees, it’s a one-club wind for most of Bandon Trails.)
I’ve been out on Old Mac in a wind that blows you back to your room. And then there’s the fact that I simply like the other courses more than Old Mac.
All that being said, I’ve had fun out there using it for alternate formats like scrambles, alt-shot, etc. I love the Ghost Tree and although, technically it’s dead, I hope it lives. I like the seventh green, eighth tee and the finishing stretch. And I look forward to sampling the new steak house.
Definitely no “hate,” just reasons why Old Mac is at the bottom of my list. “My list” being the key words here.✌🏼
On this day 78 years ago, 156,000 soldiers landed in Normandy to liberate France during WWII.
Every year, French soldiers take sand from Omaha Beach and rub it onto the gravestones to give the letters a gold coloring.
They do this for all 9,386 American soldiers buried there.
