On this day in 1675, the foundation stone of London’s most iconic cathedral was laid ⛪✨
On 21 June, master mason Thomas Strong placed the first stone of what would become St Paul's Cathedral, under the direction of legendary architect Sir Christopher Wren.
Built after the Great Fire of London, Wren's masterpiece was designed in the shape of a Latin cross and crowned with the magnificent dome that still dominates London's skyline today. More than 350 years later, it remains one of the capital's most recognisable landmarks and a symbol of London's resilience, history and architectural brilliance🇬🇧

Loved my return visit today to @DulwichGallery and to the wonderful Anna Ancher exhibition ‘Painting Light’. Fascinating subject matter - the people and landscapes of Skagen - but it’s the astonishing use and depiction of light that’s magical.
Huge credit to the English Civic Museums Network inc @derbymuseums@BM_AG@LeedsMuseums@BarnsleyMuseums for spearheading the crucial advocacy for today’s @DCMS announcement of £1.2bn into museums, galleries and libraries. A safety net to address years of underfunding.
Did you know St Paul’s Cathedral is home to the famous Divination stairwell from the Harry Potter movies? 📽️
As well as being the backdrop to many much-loved films, St Paul's Cathedral is one of London’s most famous cathedrals, where you can discover a spectacular array of art, panoramic views of the London skyline and an even more fascinating history. A masterpiece from Britain’s most famous architect, Sir Christopher Wren, the cathedral is undoubtedly one of London’s most majestic buildings. That’s why you need to add it to your London must-visit list.
