This eventually led to Coco’s graduation and the fall of the HololiveCN branch due to the Antis that spawned.

Second, an American BiliBili expansion might run afoul of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act (PAFACAA), aka the TikTok ban. While that was ultimately not enforced against TikTok, it did force a restructure of TikTok’s operations. While currently unlikely to be enforced against BiliBili, this could rapidly change based on the political and diplomatic winds between Washington and Beijing.

Third, the People’s Republic of China’s government just placed restrictions on Social Media influencers on Chinese platforms, requiring relevant degrees before mentioning certain matters. There is a likelihood that similar restrictions will be extended to the entire BiliBili user base by BiliBili in order to ensure compliance and make enforcement easier. This could easily lead to your deplatforming off of BiliBili.

Between the previous toxic behavior of its user base, its censorship, and the risks that access to it could disappear overnight due to National Security concerns, I would not touch the platform with a ten foot pole.

The average person doesn’t realize the complex diplomatic and political realities involving the China-Taiwan relationship or Taiwan’s existence. This is, in fact, what caused the Haachama incident in the first place. She was just looking at and reading off her YouTube stats, which listed Taiwan as a separate country for statistical purposes. Coco, having lived in America and being more aware, then intentionally invoked it to take some of the heat off her.

Are you denying that BiliBili users bullied Haachama, Kiryu Coco, and other HololiveJP talents to the point that Cover Corp eventually pulled off the platform and ended its HololiveCN branch?

Are you denying the censorship that the Government of People’s Republic of China insists on making platforms under its jurisdiction to enforce?

I was there as a fan of Hololive when the Haachama Taiwan incident down.

When it was still on the Appeals Court level during my time at Law School, I wrote a paper for my 1st Amendment Seminar that correctly predicted that SCOTUS would uphold PAFACAA in TikTok v. Garland.

I’ve personally met people who have lost everything over seemingly innocuous posts on Weibo and Rednote.

My strong recommendation is a “No.” Some VTubers have already attempted to use the platform and found themselves banned with vague reasons given. Even before then, the user base and the platform do not have the best relationship with the Japanese and Western VTuber communities, such as the Haachama-Kiryu Coco Taiwan controversy that led to the end of HololiveCN and the graduation of Kiryu Coco. And BiliBili, as it grows, may be subject to the same law that created the TikTok ban (although the TikTok ban was not enforced, the threat of enforcement did force a corporate restructuring). I would not want to rely on a platform that relies on the mood of Beijing and Washington towards each other.
