A new essay from @winlow_s and myself in the Journal of Extreme Anthropology. A personal memoir of our decades-long struggle to introduce a new realist theoretical framework into western social science. https://t.co/71oxlSFsRh @BritSocCrim@britsoci#socialscience
@unseenfacts108@graceyldn The thing is - nearly everyone in the 'creative induistries' is from a privileged background -they probably all agreed sticking him on what looks like a rundown council estate & some ridiculous caricature of w/c mens clothes waas a good idea and made him look edgy

Join us @old_waterworks for the launch of Marc Garrett's book, Feral Class.
Thought-provoking memoir of a working-class artist’s journey—growing up on a council estate in Southend-on-Sea, and how the experience shaped both his life and political views. https://t.co/IhVAtHZfnx
Well, the publisher isn't pushing our last book so hard now it's three years old. Do some publicity yourself, they said. OK, I lack experience but I'll have a go.

Happy birthday to Paul Robeson — pro athlete, actor, singer, civil rights activist, and socialist — born on this day in 1898.
When he traveled abroad, Robeson made a point to sing for workers. Here he is performing ‘Joe Hill’ to Scottish miners in 1949.
#youthwork is pulled into crime agendas in tokenistic ways. That’s not youth work. It is relational, voluntary and educational — and that is why it matters. If we were serious about reducing youth crime, we would invest far more in actual youth work.

I'm happy to announce this new paper — we compile evidence on the extraordinary harms caused by IMF and World Bank structural adjustment programmes in the global South since the 1980s.
The empirical record is devastating: documented negative impacts on wages, poverty, inequality, maternal mortality, infant mortality, healthcare access, etc.
SAPs inflicted misery on the periphery in order to curtail their consumption, scupper independent development, and make labour and resources more cheaply available for the core.

I don’t know about you, but if I was going to hold an event on economic distribution I would most likely not put four privately educated people on a stage. It’s getting awfully tiring hearing about poverty from people of all political shades who have only read about it in a book.
