Friday marks 21 years since four firefighters died in two separate fires. The day came to be known as “Black Sunday.”
On January 23, 2005, six firefighters were forced to jump from a fourth-floor window after being trapped by fire in an illegally converted Bronx apartment. Lt. Curtis Meyran of Battalion 26 and Lt. John Bellew of Ladder Company 27 died that day of their injuries. Lt. Joseph DiBernardo of Rescue 3 succumbed to injuries from this fire on November 22, 2011. Firefighters Jeff Cool, Eugene Stolowski, and Brendan Cawley suffered life-threatening injuries.
That same day, Firefighter Richard T. Sclafani of Ladder Company 103 died while fighting a 2-alarm fire in East New York, Brooklyn. He was a 10-year veteran of the FDNY.
The FDNY will never forget them.
@Rainmaker1973 The boat is sailing up river not down river. They are sailing towards the USCG Academy which will be on their port. The train bridge is down river of 95.

Zac Segal, president of the BU College Republicans, said he snitched because “immigrants are taking American jobs.”
Then the lawyer for the workers hit back with the obvious: Segal wasn’t born in America either and he’s the one taking a spot at the university from American students.
Every Wisconsin player ran out with an American flag today, representing the 146 Wisconsin military personnel who have died since the year 2000 and gave their lives to service.
