🇺🇸 OPINION: THE TICKING TIME BOMB FINALLY EXPLODED

Sarah Beckstrom was 20 years old.

She graduated high school in 2023, joined the West Virginia National Guard, and was deployed to Washington, DC to serve her country.

She never made it home for Thanksgiving.

The man who killed her should have never been in America.

Rahmanullah Lakanwal arrived in September 2021, one of tens of thousands of Afghan nationals rushed into the country during the most catastrophic military withdrawal in modern American history.

The Biden administration called it Operation Allies Welcome.

They said everyone was thoroughly vetted. They said we could trust the process.

They lied.

Former FBI special agent Nicole Parker worked on that vetting operation.

She described it as a "free-for-all." FBI agents flagged individuals who shouldn't be allowed entry.

The Biden State Department overrode them.

Evacuees arrived with no verifiable documents, no records, nothing to run through intelligence databases.

They were waved through anyway because the administration needed good headlines.

A 2022 Inspector General report found the screening process was rushed, understaffed, and inconsistent.

At least 50 evacuees with "potentially serious security concerns" were brought to the U.S. Officials couldn't even locate dozens of them afterward.

Senator Josh Hawley revealed that 324 individuals entered with derogatory information.

When pressed under oath, DHS Secretary Mayorkas admitted he couldn't guarantee everyone was properly vetted.

They knew. They all knew.

And they did it anyway because admitting failure was politically unacceptable.

So they filled planes with strangers and scattered them across America and told us to be grateful for their compassion.

Four years later, we're still cleaning up the mess.

Sarah Beckstrom is dead because bureaucrats decided optics mattered more than security.

Because politicians wanted praise for humanitarian gestures without accepting responsibility for the consequences.

Because an administration that couldn't execute a withdrawal without getting 13 service members killed at Abbey Gate also couldn't be bothered to properly screen the people they flew into American communities.

The FBI is investigating this as terrorism.

The Trump administration has halted all Afghan immigration applications and ordered a review of every green card from countries of concern.

These are the actions of a government that finally takes the threat seriously.

But none of it brings Sarah back.

Nicole Parker called the Afghan evacuee program a "ticking time bomb waiting to explode."

On the day before Thanksgiving, in the shadow of the White House, it exploded.

A 20-year-old soldier paid the price for decisions made by people who will never be held accountable.

America is full of people we don't know.

We don't know who they are, where they are, or what they're planning.

That's Biden's legacy. That's what we inherited.

And until every single one of those vetting failures is corrected, until every improperly screened individual is identified and removed, Americans will continue paying for the recklessness of an administration that valued symbolism over safety.

Sarah Beckstrom deserved better. America deserves better.

Never again.

Here’s what I think will happen in NYC under Mahdami.

The free buses and government grocery stores won’t happen, they never do. They sound good during campaigns, but collapse under basic math. You can’t run a city on ideas that cost billions and produce no revenue.

The only way to make housing affordable is to build more housing. The free market lowers prices, not regulation. Every time politicians try to control rent or force affordability by decree, developers stop building and landlords stop maintaining. Supply dries up, the quality collapses, and the few properties that remain skyrocket in price.

Once landlords can’t make a profit, they sell, lose properties, or walk away. Eventually, the government takes over.

Taxes will rise to pay for the promises, and the middle class will be the ones shouldering the burden. The rich will relocate, the poor will depend on subsidies, and the productive class will be squeezed from both sides.

Thriving businesses are the foundation of any thriving city. When they leave, everything else follows, jobs, schools, grocery stores, stability. Chicago already proved this. Boeing, McDonald’s, Caterpillar, Citadel, nearly 70k jobs, all gone. Now they’re facing billion-dollar deficits, half empty schools and neighborhoods without grocery stores.

I saw someone who lived in a rent-controlled apartment in California put it perfectly, he said his landlord could no longer afford maintenance so the pool was filled with dirt, the floors had soft spots, and the foundation ended up cracking. That’s what overregulation does, it destroys quality.

People who voted for this will eventually feel the pain but they won’t blame the policies or the politicians, they’ll blame the rich for leaving.

This conversation is always difficult because most people simply don’t understand market dynamics or incentives. In a free society, people act in their own self-interest. If you remove profit and reward dependency, productivity dies and the city with it.

If you think things are expensive now, just wait until they’re “free.”
