Bores is great and if you live in Manhattan* between 14th and Harlem you should VOTE FOR HIM ON TUES JUNE 23
His RAISE Act is one of the best pieces of AI legislation so far, and the millions that are being spent against him are an indication of the powers he stands against.
I’m endorsing @AlexBores for Congress because artificial intelligence could change everything and we need a leader in Congress who understands it and has a plan to regulate it. AI oligarchs are spending $10 million to defeat his campaign. We don’t agree on everything, but I know what side of that fight I’m on.
@mattyglesias I agree, also my single least favorite thing about @elonmusk. For an incredibly talented guy his epistemic practices (digging in or silently charging on when the facts contradict him) are straight out of junior high.
@Solid_Primal@DefuseSec@TheDesertLynx 😅
Ikwym but in all seriousness the best open-source engineers tend to respect solidarity. (Never forget the BTC inflation bug found & reported by a Bitcoin Casher!) https://t.co/E5Sxc6bu9x
No Monero folks should be looking to dunk on Zcash because of Zooko's post. He did the right thing and was honest about exploitation being undetectable.
We (Monero) have had our own inflation bugs that have thankfully also been resolved, it's a natural downside to building out privacy as the default in these systems.
The important things are:
1. Fixing them quickly
2. Working with stakeholders quickly
3. Being honest and transparent about them so the ecosystem as a whole can learn and improve
@Chris_arnade Wow yeah that is an all-time awful headline. The people who go to Japan and are disappointed because they don't see an amber-preserved 18th-century geisha can go to hell!
@hosseeb But there is definitely a chance that you're right and in the long term AI net results in safer code. I don't think AI will break math! It's just that real-world engineered systems depend on a lot more than pure math.
@hosseeb Mostly agreed, but everyone should just realize that how the offense/defense balance of AI will shake out is still an extremely pressing open question. And software ≠ math: I bet we will have cases of major bugs found in what was claimed to be "formally verified software".
Bone-chilling stuff.
It's funny that as kids we read so many stories valorizing courage (in young adult books - ha), but then as adults it still really is a scarce resource.
We should all be alert for episodes like Kat's where our courage might be being tested... I will...
Anyway, here's the whole sordid and very stupid story, which should hopefully be at least somewhat more fun to read about than it was to live through

Still worried the worst is yet to come 😬
Not sure the best practical mitigation... Maybe:
1. Keep/move holdings to hardware wallet for a few months
2. Avoid doing transactions involving elaborate infrastructure (smart contracts, L2, bridges, ...) - or any transactions at all?
Still an underrated study:
22,500 people on the fence about a major life change flipped a coin to decide.
6 months later, those who changed reported 2.2 points higher life satisfaction (out of 10) — bigger than the boost from exiting depression.
If you're on the fence, quit.
