This New York Times piece is worth your time. Here’s what is happening, as simply as I can put it.
Back in January, Trump sued the IRS, an agency he controls, demanding $10 billion over the leak of his tax returns a number of years ago.
IRS lawyers did their jobs. They wrote a memo laying out the defenses that could beat the suit, including the fact that Trump filed too late. His own lawyer was in court when the leaker pleaded guilty in October 2023, more than two years before Trump sued.
The Justice Department never showed up to court. Never argued back. Never used the defenses sitting on their desk.
The judge got suspicious and ordered both sides to explain whether they were actually opposing each other or just colluding. The day before that brief was due, Trump dropped the suit.
Same day, his Justice Department announced a $1.776 billion taxpayer-funded “anti-weaponization fund.”
Trump gets a formal apology. The IRS agrees to drop any audits of him and his family, even though a 2024 Times report found a loss in an ongoing audit could cost him over $100 million.
The acting Attorney General, Trump’s former criminal defense attorney, picks the five commissioners who decide who gets paid. Trump can fire any of them. Proud Boys and Oath Keepers are not ruled out.
This is the most corrupt thing I’ve ever seen from an American president.
Where in the hell are my Republican colleagues?

Good news from #FFD4: 8 countries have committed to work together on higher taxes on luxury air travel, raising funds for global climate action.🔥
Now more countries need to join - and tax profits of fossil fuel corporations too.

As the Trump admin moves to undercut USAID and effective foreign assistance, Oxfam will continue to fight to deliver lifesaving aid and long-term assistance to those who need it most. Read more: https://t.co/c33OuzADdz
Watched 4Q of Kings/Pistons — def in the running for worst loss of the season. The Kings are just a mess. Houston should be putting a full court press on Sac for Fox right now.
In happier news… Cade Cunningham is a top-25 guy now. He’s an All-Star. Detroit is in solid shape!
@WorldBank - something is wrong with your website. Every single project page has the same list of associated projects, which is not correct:
P001690
P001699
P001704
P001707
P001709
P001731
P001750
P001759
P001790
P001824
Can you fix this?
Agreed they still need to do more. Oxfam's report on climate finance transparency at the World Bank found little disclosed to support their massive climate finance claims: https://t.co/De8u6GXwPx
#DFITransparency
The inaugural #DFITransparency Index measured and ranked the transparency of 9 sovereign (public sector) multilateral development bank operations. Despite some recent progress, DFIs still need to improve their transparency.
@thewatchpod@ChrisRyan77@andygreenwald Great ep, but searching for reasons the show is like a game is starting to become a cliche. We should apply that lens to other shows and see what happens. I'd say the ultimate video game show is The Mandalorian which is just contrived reasons for Mando to embark on side quests
@GavinoGaray@PoPville Definitely like 15-20 shots with a second gun coming in before shooting stopped. Saw one man carried to an ambulance by his friends who seemed conscious. Took a lot longer to get the second victim on a gurney & into the ambulance. Looked like he was shot in the gut but conscious
As a proud and grateful member of my union at @OxfamAmerica, I'm incredibly happy for you all! This is such a huge step toward improving conditions for your union members. Congrats! #ALU#Workerpower
@ezralevant He didn't say he would cap production. He said he would cap emissions from the sector. Do we know if this includes scope 3 emissions or is this more like Chevron committing to "net-zero" by only including scope 1 and 2?
🚨NEW REPORT🚨
Fossil fuel corporations causing the climate crisis are set to rake in $121,000,000,000 in taxpayer dollars over the next decade.
After 100+ years of rampant fossil fuel subsidies, it’s time to start repairing the damage.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. https://t.co/a3t0MDKHTX
📢@SEIclimate's new report shows that in high oil price years #fossilfuelsubsidies inflated oil & gas projects' values by $20-45 BILLION.
It’s time to STOP funneling public money to polluters. Congress MUST act now to end giveaways & #BuildBackBetter.

Rich countries must help make #NetZero by 2050 a global reality - @IEA: "For many developing countries, the pathway to net zero without international assistance is not clear . . . Without greater international co‐operation, global CO2 emissions will not fall to net zero by 2050"
We're pleased that @IEA is calling for an end to fossil fuel expansion, but there's still a long way to go.
We need Congress to fight for reforms that tackle the climate crisis, fund a just economic transition, & protect marginalized communities. #NetZero
