The #DayOfTheAfricanChild commemorates the courage of the children who stood against injustice during the 1976 Soweto Uprising in South Africa.
Reflecting on the irony of marking this day while fellow Africans continue to face hostility for seeking a livelihood in South Africa.
How many South Africans are in Ghana ๐ฌ๐ญ 26 000? ๐๐
Only 3,126 South Africans Business professionals, skilled workers, and their families make up the majority of the South African expatriate community in Ghana.
The substantial economic presence of South African businesses in Ghana, including well-known firms like MTN, Stanbic Bank, and Gold Fields, supports this population.

At a time of persistent staffing shortages and rising demand for quality healthcare, medical interns play a significant role in bridging service delivery gaps.
Interns are qualified health professionals undertaking supervised practice while delivering essential healthcare services. They examine patients, respond to emergencies, make clinical decisions, and help keep health facilities running. Yet they do so under demanding conditions, often working long hours while carrying significant financial burdens.
The Government of Ugandaโs decision to discontinue internsโ allowances raises serious concerns for both their welfare and the future of the countryโs health workforce.
Internship is a mandatory stage of medical training and professional licensing, removing allowances from this stage of essential public service shifts the cost of training and service onto interns themselves, creating barriers for many young professionals and placing additional strain on an already overstretched system.
Investing in medical interns is, ultimately, an investment in the strength of the health system and in safeguarding the right to health for all Ugandans. CEHURD therefore calls on the @GovUganda , the @MinofHealthUG , and relevant authorities to reconsider the decision and ensure that medical interns receive adequate and timely support.

We have successfully concluded the #CEHURDMediaFellowship2026. The final session focused on equipping journalists with practical skills for pitching compelling stories on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Participants actively developed and pitched story ideas, from which the top six will be selected to receive financial support to further develop and publish their work.
We are confident that this fellowship has created fertile ground for story pitching, issue identification, collaboration, and practical learning, all aimed at strengthening a movement of journalists using media as a tool for accountability, social transformation, and equitable access to health and human rights for all.
We now look forward to impactful, issue-based SRHR stories that advance social justice in health and amplify the voices and realities of communities across Uganda.

The month of May is a strong reminder that menstrual health and mental health cannot be separated.
For many women and girls, menstrual health and mental health are deeply connected. Pain, stress, anxiety, emotional distress linked to menstrual stigma, lack of access to menstrual products due to period poverty, discrimination, and silence around menstruation can affect their confidence, emotional wellbeing, school attendance, and daily life.
As we mark both Menstrual Health Awareness Month and Mental Health Awareness Month, creating safe spaces for open conversations, support, and access to menstrual health services is also part of protecting mental wellbeing.ย
No girl or woman should struggle in silence or feel ashamed about a natural process. Because promoting menstrual health is also promoting mental wellbeing.

This is me 100% โ anyone else out there like this? Or are you the type who needs to be out and about to feel alive?

No one should continue to suffer or live with the belief that reaching out for help may not lead to Justice.
This analysis by the Center for Health, Human Rights and Developmentย takes a closer look at the legal and policy frameworks addressing gender-based violence in Uganda.
While recognising the efforts made by government to strengthen prevention and response mechanisms, the publication also highlights the persistent prevalence of GBV and the social and economic cost it continues to have on individuals, families, and communities.
The paper draws attention to the gaps that continue to limit effective protection and response, and why stronger implementation, accountability, and survivor-centered approaches remain critical.
