Baleen plates may look a lot like leaves, but these massive plates actually belong in the mouths of whales, where they allow whales to expel water while filtering out krill and other food! 🐳🐳

A friend and I measuring the rock, vegetation & wildlife on Maroubra beach. It was super interesting to learn about how marine species vary across the rock bed. There are multiple factors — water, rock pool complexity, predators — that determine where species settle.

Was snorkeling the other day in Clovelly and saw a few sea urchins, and I remembered from class that sea urchins are often considered a keystone species in the coral reef ecosystem. I learned from the article below that sea urchins prey on algae which allows coral to grow.
