@bellaunsw being from the US, we have a lot of single-use plastic like plastic bags that ends up in our oceans, i saw a study that americans throw away 100 billion bags annually. it is great to see that other countries are making change to better our environment.

My group mates and I submitted our research paper on microbeads! While they may be cheap for cosmetic companies to use in products, these tiny pieces of plastic bypass filters and end up in our oceans. Fish mistaken these as food, and end up getting sick/dying :( #MarEnvS20

I see piles like this everywhere I go too! Some have “my trash = your treasure” signs where people can reuse others’ items, but most do not. #MarEnvS20

during my walk today i saw this pile of trash, which i’m starting to find is normal around sydney. it’s sad because even though i’m not near the ocean, 8 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans/year. please be aware and throw out/recycle properly so we can protect our oceans

On our field trip to Maroubra Beach, we learned that the further away from the ocean you move, the finer the sand becomes. This is because it’s easier for waves & the wind push back light sand. Hence why shells/heavy objects are found towards the water! #MarEnvS20

Visited the Sydney Harbour today! Despite its beauty and what appears to be clean water, no more than 150 grams of fish to the east of the bridge should be consumed. Contaminated dioxin levels will make fish in the harbour unsafe to eat for years 😔 #MarEnvS20
