I’ve learned that Australia Day, like the American Columbus Day, has the underlying meaning of oppression. Today we should celebrate Indigenous Australia. How the land was formed & evolved to what it has become today & honor those who first & most honor it #MarEnvS20
@bellaunsw being from the US, we have a lot of single-use plastic like plastic bags that ends up in our oceans, i saw a study that americans throw away 100 billion bags annually. it is great to see that other countries are making change to better our environment.
Can you spot the plastic? 🔎
Before swiping to the 2nd image, try to see if you can spot the plastic pollution in the 1st image. Hint: there are 10 pieces!
You'll be surprised at how much was there that you didn't even notice, which is a great representation of every day life.
at the grocery store, there’s a huge array of canned fish. you should always check labels when buying fish bc a lot of fish is not sustainably caught, but purchasing cans that are correctly labeled is helping make an individual impact! #MarEnvS20
during my walk today i saw this pile of trash, which i’m starting to find is normal around sydney. it’s sad because even though i’m not near the ocean, 8 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans/year. please be aware and throw out/recycle properly so we can protect our oceans
@4ocean@BRPSeaDoo in #MarEnvS20 we've learned how dangerous ghost nets are to marine animals, they can entangle and limit the movement of the animals, which can lessen the ability for these animals to swim, feed, and escape predators.
we learned the different species that live in high, middle, and low zones. species like the sea squirt can only live in the low zone because they need water or will dry out. all three zones will have gastropods (snails and limpets) because they’ve adapted to waterless conditions.
@coral_org remember the importance of corals, they are home of many marine animals and supply a great deal of food for our fish. keep them healthy! #MarEnvS20

@mirella_unsw@marinechat21 i agree! im all for rehabilitation habitats so these animals can get back on their feet and be healthy out in the wild, but it’s sad to see them in such a small enclosure for how many penguins there are. #MarEnvS#MarEnvS23
