This is interesting and I need to look for the proposed bill. But failed wheel bearings are a serious problem and one the rail industry can detect. When the bearings fail the wheels can generate enough heat to melt steel. So the railroads have to make a decision

It sounds like this bill would require the railroads to repair the bearings outside of populated areas rather than take the gamble on a fire. Seems fairly reasonable but will probably create a lot of short term problems for the railroad.

Do they stop a train with failed bearings on the current track and shut it down until it gets fixed or do they hope it doesn’t escalate to a fire before they can get it to the next rail yard to be repaired.

An interesting point. And important one. I think there is a fundamental disconnect in a lot of sports. They work very hard to create a team based brand, but never focus on the players. Players almost seem incidental.

MLS is poor at attracting American soccer fans who wake up every Saturday morning at 7am to watch hours of European football, and that’s an audience they need to capture in this country.
