Twitter feels like it’s dying for sure—not sure where the next dominant research science network will be, but I’m on both

Very pleased to have this huge chunk of my PhD out in @GenomeBiolEvol! Lots of cool stories about genes involved in detoxification and steroid metabolism in insects, as well as lessons about what evolution can teach us about gene function…

Also congratulations to Sanjay Kumar Pradhan from @westsyduhie who has won a NovaSeq 6000 S1 Flowcell + library construction from @illumina & @ramacgenomics to explore the Queensland fruit fly virome!
We're excited to see the outcomes of both of these experiments in the future!
GSA Student Research Grant 2023-24: Congratulations to Mary Hawkes from @OtagoBiochemist who has won a NovaSeq 6000 S1 Flowcell + library construction from @illumina & @AgResearchNEWS to investigate the transcriptomes of early development in kuku (green lipped mussel)!
My last PhD paper is up as a preprint! Have a read if you like functional genetics in Drosophila, insect hormones, or incongruous results between CRISPR and RNAi…
@BenForWard3 @OhlsteinLab Without any disrespect to the paper, which is very good, it does pain me to admit that too, haha. Disapproved a big hypothesis of mine I only just published this year https://t.co/mhPE62Bulh
@OhlsteinLab Congrats on solving a mystery I’ve been thinking about for many years! Your experiments are very convincing and I don’t think I believe my recycling hypothesis anymore. But do you think 20E is synthesised, stored and released from DIOM, or secreted as soon as it is made?
