I agree with Razib's standard, and it's the reason I speak bluntly about this topic and draw clear lines.

I feel strongly about this because, among other things, I hate the recent increase in white identitarian radicalization and the normalization of attacks on other groups that comes with it. I want strong weapons against it, and the strongest possible weapon is a society that pushes for equal treatment and actually means it.

Racism cannot be one of society's greatest taboos in most directions, but a cause for Context and Nuance and Sympathy when directed in one direction. Dealing with sincere anti-white animus is no more pleasant for me than dealing with sincere anti-gay animus. When I'm arguing against white identitarians, I want to say and mean that culture takes identitarian animus seriously no matter which direction it's pointed. But that's not true, and many don't particularly want it to be true.

If we want a society that treats people as individuals and rejects racism—and I emphatically do—people must be willing to stand up unequivocally for that norm against threats from all directions.
