@jonwillchambers Quite. The one lever you have to pull as Prime Minister, which nobody else has, is policy. And Monday's speech had virtually zero policy content.

@M8rkmywords @lukeakehurst Definitely not saying no progress/green shoots. But it feels like there are huge opportunities to change the country for the better, and all we have at the moment is incrementalism. And even then the incrementalism is not being sold well.

@lukeakehurst I agree, a lot of water to pass under the bridge. But equally the last 2 years have felt directionless and the only thing Starmer offers is ‘trust me’. I want us to make the country better and want a programme to get behind - where is that? It shouldn’t be missing 2 years in.

Local election results in Redbridge are very interesting... Expectation was Labour would lose but they clung on. Understand that at the Redbridge count late last night Streeting said: “To all of those naysayers who claimed I couldn’t win Ilford North at the next general election, I will be standing in Ilford North at the next general election. This is my home, I’ve served this community for well over a decade, I’m not going anywhere, I’m in it to win it.”

@RichySouthern @Sukki1975 I’m not ignoring them. I am openly saying we’ve been inconsistent in the league, but acknowledging the context that we fought on 4 fronts for 6 months. With only the eighth highest budget in the league, consistently competing in four competitions is a very tough task.

@RichySouthern @Sukki1975 Everyone wishes we'd won those games. But we're in a tough place with the squad this year. And a managerial change (even putting aside it would be an awful way to treat the manager who brought us our first trophy in years just over a year ago) has a LOT of downside risk.

@RichySouthern @Sukki1975 Sunderland, like it or not, are an outside shot at Europe this year. They've built a good team and are playing once a week. They also happen to be exactly the kind of team we have struggled against this season - low block, counter attack.

@MsiDouglas Generally agree re: staying calm, but I also think PIF are very poor communicators and ‘actions speak louder than words’ doesn’t work when various actions (stadium, training ground, women’s team investment etc.) are not visibly moving forward.

The good job looks like it is basically make a few things fairer, without any overarching vision, and generally hold public services together until 2029 and hope the public don’t vote us out.

@theobertram It sums up the past 16 months. It’s been a disaster from virtually day one, and now they seem to be manufacturing a leadership challenge two weeks before the Budget.

Surely the answer to critics is shut up and then deliver a transformational Budget that everyone can get behind?

The talk about Starmer potentially facing a leadership challenge is entirely down to Keir Starmer. I spent over a decade dreaming of the return of a Labour government, and it’s been a total disaster - and judging by the pre-Budget briefings it’s only going to get worse.
