A lot of people who started following me in recent years probably don't know the story of why I started covering Tesla.

I got my first Tesla in 2018 (a Model 3 LR RWD), at a difficult time in my life. I had left the startup I founded, was out of college, was going through a breakup, and life was generally very uncertain. That Tesla helped me so much, and brought so much joy to my life at a dark time. So I started tweeting about it.

That's when I met the Tesla short sellers. They were betting against the company's stock, back when Tesla's market cap was just around $30B - $60B. They wanted Tesla and the Model 3 to fail and would spend all day posting negative smears and propaganda on Twitter from anonymous accounts — even if it was untrue.

So I joined in and created my own anonymous account too, to debunk their talking points. It was really easy to poke holes in their arguments by sharing my real experience with the product — and they hated it.

So then in addition to attacking and smearing Tesla, they started attacking me too. I was doxxed by my Cyberstalker, Tesla short seller Aaron Jacob Greenspan when I was 25. They called my employer, they called my parents, and they started threatening me with repercussions if I didn't stay quiet.

They started blackmailing me too. In my early 20s I had been caught with some weed at a rave party boat called Holy Ship. It wasn't really that big of a deal — they ended up not charging me because I had a medical marijuana card. But the TSLAQ short sellers, who had doxxed me against my will, told me to stay quiet or they would tell my parents (who didn't know about this at the time).

When I kept questioning their negative narrative that Tesla would go bankrupt, they made good on their threats and started sharing my mugshot everywhere. It was horrible mental anguish to be constantly reminded of one of the worst days of my life. They would share the picture and say that I was a convicted felon, that I was in possession of child pornography, that I smoked crystal meth — all horrible lies that were completely untrue. They even called the police on me. I started to understand what it must feel like to be Elon Musk, dealing with their attacks and smears all day.

Then, TSLAQ started suing me and Elon. They filed thousands of pages of frivolous documents in federal court, and are still doing it to this day despite the lawsuit being dismissed and dismissed with prejudice and dismissed on appeal again. These are truly sick and evil people who focus on this full time. My harassment was funded by donations from other short sellers, who would donate to my Cyberstalkers 501 (c)(3) tax exempt charity.

Amazingly, the media was on their side — the mainstream media would share their talking points, and people like Lora Kolodny from CNBC would even share the smear attacks (like the child pornography allegations) on their own Twitter accounts. It was crazy. Back then I was a lot less jaded and believed in the media. I thought it was their job to counter smears, to debunk attacks, to get the truth out there. Sadly it turned out they were very easily manipulated by Tesla short sellers.

But Tesla ended up prevailing. The company went from a $30 billion market cap to a trillion dollar market cap in one of the most insane runs I've ever seen. All the money shorts lost got transferred to Tesla bulls like myself. And many of the short sellers of that time, like Keith Watson (aka Tesla Charts) disappeared.

Some people ask me, Omar why would you still want to cover Tesla even after facing so much hate, harassment, and negativity? The lawsuits for example cost $200k+, and would have destroyed my life if not for a bunch of kind people online who donated to my legal defense.

The reason I do this is *because* of those attacks. Because of the Tesla short sellers, the liars, the smear peddlers. Someone has to get the truth out. And with the kind of harassment and threats people face for telling the truth about Tesla, very few in the mainstream media are willing to do it.

These days, a new breed of short sellers continues their attacks. In their view, anyone who is a fan of Tesla is evil. People are allowed to be fans of Apple, fans of BMW, or fans of Rivian without getting attacked. But being a fan of Tesla is evil, according to these people.

"You're just lying to people for money!" they'll tell me. And I have to laugh at that.

When I started doing this I was making no money. $0. I was tweeting for free, because I believed what Tesla was doing was important and what TSLAQ was doing was wrong. For many years covering Tesla only brought financial ruin, and I'm still not making as much money as I did when my day job was software. I do this because I love it, because I think it's important, and because there is so much resistance from evil people like my Cyberstalker.

You would think that Tesla stock going from a $30 billion market cap to a $1 trillion market cap would be enough to convince people that they were wrong. But no, the shorts are still here. THIS TIME it's really the end for Tesla. Trust me guys, this time it's really the end. And it never is.

If you see people who are engaged in personal attacks and smears rather than discussing the company, block them and cut them out of your life. Remember that there is an insane amount of negative propaganda targeting Tesla. And as long as there is, I will be here to debunk it.

Tesla is the most important growth story of our time. Thank you to those who believe in the mission. Thank you to all those who supported me through all the tough times. There are many vicious people who want to destroy the company and attack anyone who has anything good to say about Tesla. But they will continue to fail again and again, just as they have in the past, because of the strength of the EV community.
