This lawyer, Gachie Wanjohi, impregnated a magistrate in Karatina and fled to practice in Nairobi…

The magistrate was later transferred to Nairobi.

One day, the guy showed up in court with a child support case from his client, only to find the mother of his own child sitting on the bench!

She refused to hear the case until he paid school fees for their daughter. And the cycle continued again and again, because he handles so many deadbeat fathers’ cases. Eventually, he accepted responsibility and started taking care of his daughter 🤣🤣🤣

Nairobi of 1990’s & Early 2000’s Was a Beauty!

You can’t compare Nairobi of now with that of 1990’s & early 2000’s!

I finished School of Law in early 1990’s & joined the law firm of HE Moses Wetang’ula, my first & last employer! I lived in Ngong Town & used KBS route 111 to commute. The bus I took at 6:32am arrived everyday same time without fail. The streets of Nairobi didn’t have litter & there were lorries vacuum cleaners that cleaned the roads. Always grateful to Weta for holding my hand when I was barely in my early 20’s.

Then I moved through different estates from Lang’ata to Lavington to Kileleshwa as my income increased. I then bought my first house in then beautiful & upscale Kilimani. There is no day I missed water in my house. Kilimani had such beautiful ambiance: nice roads, amazing restaurants & clubs and our neighour was State House!

Nairobi had many wonderful restaurants: RedBull at Transnational Plaza, Alan Bobbie’s Bistro on Koinange, Thorn Tree at the Stanley, Pango in Fairview, Mandhari in Serena, Panda in Fedha Towers, Tamarind in National Bank next to CBK & Lavarini on Moi Avenue. The food was gourmet. Service was exemplary. Seats were always full. I was lucky to have Gideon Moi as my friend & client then. Always had our table reserved in all these restaurants. Always grateful to him. And you could swim & fish in Nairobi Dam!

And for those wanting clubbing & nocturnal life, choices abound. I never used to go out those days but my friends tell me such clubs as Florida 2000, Madhouse, Lips, Ainsworth& later Ibiza! And for those that wanted sexual escapade, entire Koinange Street offered respite at the cheap! And don’t forget Sabina Joy!

Nairobi of 1990’s was vibrant, clean, efficient, multicultural, hip & kaleidoscope!

The Nairobi we have now is chaotic, unplanned & rough! Nairobi of then knew that the Nairobi National Park was for the fittest to survive. The animals in the park must now be seeing Nairobians in reverse binoculars! Only the toughest can survive Nairobi of now with its broken roads & raw sewage! CBD has shut down. At night, Nairobi is a ghost town. No great city shuts down at night.

How times change! How progress becomes retrogress!

It is imperative that individuals trolling the LSK President elect, Charles Kanjama, SC be called out. The duty to uphold the Constitution is bestowed upon the President of the Republic of Kenya, and Parliament. The LSK and its President has a specific mandate given to it, and him/her by the LSK Act.

A majority of Advocates elected Charles Kanjama, SC on a manifesto that is clear to Advocates. On my part, I will not advise the LSK President elect to start running from one police station to another, freeing Kenyans detained by a regime hell bent on violating the Bill of Rights. I never did that as LSK President. History documents how ungrateful Kenyans are to the LSK whenever we have fought for Kenya.

Was I not vilified for challenging the COVID containment measures by President Uhuru Kenyatta? Was I not targeted for fighting BBI? Was I not ridiculed for pursuing the dissolution of Parliament for want of compliance with the 2/3 gender rule? Was I not isolated for defending Parliamentarians targeted by President Uhuru Kenyatta: Oscar Sudi; Cleophas Malala amongst others?

The people trolling the LSK elect, President Charles Kanjama, SC are the very same people who belittle the practice of law. They say law is just good English and black suits. They claim law is overrated and should be taught as a second degree. LSK President elect, Charles Kanjama, SC stay put. You are not the President of the Republic of Kenya, the MP for Mavoko or the Senator for Kisumu County. Let those do their work and be called out for not doing it.

Now, Kenyans, to uphold the rule of law and respect for the Bill of Rights and to entrench good governance, it is incumbent upon you to elect a President of the Republic of Kenya who upholds the Constitution and respects the rule of law. It behooves you to elect Parliamentarians who are competent to oversight the Executive. You have the opportunity to do so in August, 2027. Start by registering to vote. LSK elections are over. Stop bothering the LSK President elect.

Come to think of it, are there no Presidents or Chairs for the close to 22 Professional Bodies in Kenya: bloggers; noisemakers; doctors; engineers; architects; teachers; journalists, etc? Let them also bear the weight of leadership and the burden of responsible government in Kenya. That weight cannot be borne by and saddled on the LSK and its President alone.

Young people must develop a charter of their own, one that insists on the greatest possible good for Kenya and transcends political parties, ethnic identities, and individual personalities.

That is the purpose of the Broad Based Youth Front. It is not a replacement for political parties. It is a structural platform for collaboration among young people drawn from different political traditions, united by a shared commitment to accountability, governance, and national renewal. Through it, we seek to hold government to account, advance a clear youth agenda anchored in the ten-point framework, and participate meaningfully in the country’s governance architecture, including making a principled case for President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027.

All indicators point to the necessity of change in Kenya’s political and economic order. President Ruto has demonstrated not only goodwill, but a consistent willingness to engage diverse constituencies in pursuit of that change. He has also shown the political capacity and institutional reach required to implement reform and compete successfully in 2027. The youth cannot afford to remain spectators in this moment.

This is the pragmatism that informed the formation of the Broad Based Youth Front, and it is the realism that will guide our work until we deliver tangible results and play our role in shaping the country’s leadership trajectory.

Our doors remain open, including to young people in the opposition. The task before us is larger than party lines. It is about Kenya’s future.
