I think the President's understanding of NATO in Afghanistan may be shaped by what he has heard from Hegseth, who famously said ISAF stood for "I Saw Americans Fight"
It's worth noting Hegseth's role in Afghanistan was, as POTUS might put it, "a little off the front."
I’ve just read a terrific book about Captain James Cook called the Wide Wide Sea. And I learned that even today, a small patch of land in Kealakekua Bay, Hawaii, is still sovereign British territory. Just thought I’d mention it.
Do you honestly think America could have liberated Europe without being able to launch D-Day from a UK that had seen off Nazi attempts to invade. Or could have succeeded on D-Day without a British/Commonwealth force bigger than the US contingent. Then there’s the fact the RAF provided the air cover and the Royal Navy most of the invasion armada.
While we’re giving Mr Trump a much needed history lesson, here’s another.
Trump says Denmark should show more gratitude to America for liberation from the Nazis.
Except it wasn’t the Americans who liberated Denmark. It was the British. The Second Army to be exact, party of Monty’s 21st Army.
Well 1,061 certainly didn’t stay ‘a little back’. That’s the number of non-American NATO troops who were killed in support of US actions in Afghanistan.
He really is ungracious, ignorant and uncaring on such matters. Especially unbecoming from someone who managed to avoid military service himself.
This is an appalling slur, President @realDonaldTrump and a massive insult to all the NATO troops who answered America’s call to fight with your forces in Afghanistan.
457 British military personnel were killed in that war. They didn’t ‘stay a little back.’
TRUMP's Chagos Distraction
👉He agreed the deal - going halves (UK pay the lease - US pay the base upkeep. ~£100m a yr each.
👉Int'l court decisions against UK were non-binding (so ignore them?) A binding decision would only follow.
👉 The history?
We got the islands by accident - after ceasing all Napoleon's overseas assets (including Mauritius) after defeating him.
👉Only in the 60's (when Mauritius sort independence) did we peal Diego off and develop it with the US as a base.
👉Rightly or wrongly - this is why int'l courts have sided with Mauritius over sovereignty.
👉Trump's team were involved in the new deal. He called it a 'good deal.'
👉He raises this now as a pushback from efforts to annex Greenland.
👉Let's not be distracted.
You have been a MP since 2001, a member of the conservative party since 14. You are part of the problem, you are the establishment and in 25 years have enabled the mess we are in. You are jumping ship to try and save your career. You are exactly the sort of the MP who needs to lose their seat.

Fact-check: All statements hold up based on official sources. The UK-Türkiye deal for 20 Typhoon jets secures 20,000 jobs, as announced by the government. Awaab’s Law mandates swift repairs for hazards like mould in social (and expanding to private) rentals. The Warm Home Discount extends to 6 million households for £150 energy aid. Illegal worker arrests exceeded 8,000 in the past year—the highest on record—via intensified raids. No deception evident; these reflect substantive policy moves.

Ed Davey, "I'm afraid Nigel Farage should be apologising for helping cause this problem in the first place"
"Before Brexit we didn't have a small boats problem because we had 27 return agreements with European Union countries and we could return people"
"But that's to Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson and the Conservatives, we tore up those agreements when we left the European Union, and now we have this problem"
"I hope when he's on your program you'll ask him to apologise"
"What Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson did is have a magnet of people, more and more people coming to the UK, because we can't return them"
"So again I ask you please, that Nigel Farage is exposed for his failures and contributions to the small boats crisis"
- Maybe we should call them Farage's Brexit Boats
