@drsebheaven@stevemchale@doctorthomaschr And regarding power, definitely need more patients, especially as it relates to PJI. The reassuring thing here was that no obvious signal with available numbers.
@drsebheaven@stevemchale@doctorthomaschr Yep- this was why we did the study. We need more evidence regarding safety. We also have an RCT nearing completion- will see what that shows.
@centerofhip Obviously the classic teaching is to remove all cement, but there is reasonable data supporting leaving the cement and doing cement in cement revision for these. Less morbid and similar infection eradication results in this series.

@simonbridle2@ExeterHipUnit@aschwartz45 Just looked this up and wasn’t aware that bioball existed- anyone know if it’s available in the states? Could see this being useful in select cases.
While dislocation persisted in some cases, this versatile technique allows for the maximization of femoral head diameter and optimization of effective acetabular component position during cementation.

@stevemchale@costinbrown@bonesmith_@centerofhip@orthopedicpearl Interesting, but I wonder if it has anything to do with their average cup position having inclination of 30 degrees. In my mind, this is likely biasing their results toward an inferior lip position. I wonder if the results might vary if the cup was put in at 40-45 degrees
@stevemchale@timpetheram@NorthumbriaOrth My paper, so biased, but removing these is a real challenge and I’m not aware of a solution other than what we’ve presented. Have seen multiple tech attempted and failed. Cumbersome tech no doubt, but it works.
Congratulations to Aleksander Mika, MD of Vanderbilt University for winning the 2023 Aaron A. Hofmann Resident Award with his paper titled, "Synovial Barium and Zirconium Ions are Promising Markers for Aseptic Loosening". Go Dores!
