Exciting news: GOD, GUNS, and SEDITION is out today in paperback!
My @cfr_org and @columbiaUP book, co-authored with the great @hoffman_bruce, tells the story of far-right terrorism in America and beyond—a topic that sadly remains as relevant as ever. https://t.co/2ag6KsNe17
"An unblinking and clarifying account of the right-wing extremism that has long percolated in the United States and has now burgeoned." @ColumbiaUP@hoffman_bruce https://t.co/lwijOyswJS
It was such an honor to join our brilliant prologist @mr_demiguel and the unparalleled team at @LaTormenta_Eds in Madrid to discuss findings from our book God, Guns, and Sedition: Far-Right Terrorism in America. A beautiful city and a great audience! 🇪🇸
A key theme of the forthcoming 4th edition of InsideTerrorism is how terrorism is increasingly being legitimized & excused. More evidence since I submitted the ms. for peer review in April: “Oxford Union president said Hamas would be ‘lauded as heroes’” https://t.co/TvaMPaXFBX
@SulkinMaya@TheFP As a reminder, I recently released a long report on youth radicalization for @TheSoufanCenter. It’s an enormously challenging issue — an era-defining, existential terrorism threat that cannot simply be ignored.
“Isolated, autistic, and targeted by jihadist extremists online, the teen fits an increasingly recognizable mold of who gets indoctrinated online.”
Really good work on our youth radicalization emergency by @SulkinMaya in @TheFP. https://t.co/4tHQMH3RrG
“Terrorists broke into our home… They targeted our most vulnerable family member.”
But “the last thing we’re going to do is create a barrier between us and our son.” @SulkinMaya@TheFP https://t.co/4tHQMH3RrG
"To follow the history of assassination is to watch states increasingly take to heart Max Weber’s maxim that states’ stability depends on establishing a monopoly on legitimate violence in a territory."
My review of Death to Order (@yalepress) in @lawfare. https://t.co/Iy6wyciXys
NEW: Delighted to provide a review of Simon Ball's excellent @yalepress book — Death to Order — for @lawfare. Compellingly, Ball finds that assassinations have typically served as irritations, not existential threats to democracy. https://t.co/Iy6wyciXys
Very cool case study on public-private partnerships for removal of extremist online content from Spain. The model "privileges prevention and cooperation over coercive regulatory enforcement." 🇪🇸 @spaceisauk_@rielcano https://t.co/7EHh0fReVK

“[T]hose making the plans in Washington believe overwhelming force can compensate for asymmetric motivation. It cannot. America may have the force, but the other side has the will.” @IvoHDaalder
Indeed. Irregular warfare ignored once again in #Iran. https://t.co/le5SB63AyX
Possible stormclouds ahead: “They are laying the groundwork for another possible conflict. The terrorism framing is the rhetorical scaffolding for it.” @Jason_Blazakis@just_security https://t.co/GPOhgenDB0
Great work by @Jason_Blazakis in @just_security, outlining the use of counterterrorism framing to justify war in #Cuba.
I would only add that taking a violent approach in Cuba—a country with long histories of both irregular warfare and state support—seems particularly foolish.
