Brian Schwake's never signed with a team to be its starting goalie. He's flown under the radar his whole career. Now the Nashville SC No. 1 is an MLS record-holder and one of the most promising young GKs in the USMNT pool.
On Schwake's path less traveled:

Dear OKC,
We were blessed with the opportunity by @HEB to go to your city for game 7 and… wow.
Transparently, with all the responses we’ve gotten from OKC fans on here, we thought a lot of hate was waiting for us at Paycom but we couldn’t have been more wrong.
99% of your fans were so kind and welcoming, even congratulating each and every one of us after the win. The pregame chant battles were nothing but respectful and filled with friendly banter.
There is a common sentiment that you have some of the loudest fans in the NBA and that might just be true. Every single one of you on your feet the entire game, every single OKC fan in the shirt, and your use of the clappers is impeccable. An hour before tip and the arena was already full. We’re still biased towards San Antonio, but if we’re looking for a second place in crowd environment, you guys are up there.
We know that this will not be the last time we see OKC in a playoff run, I imagine it’ll be a fairly consistent thing, but after 12 games this season, your real fanbase definitely has our respect and we can’t help but tip our hat.
Thank you for being an amazing host to us, we hope all of your players get healthy, and can’t wait for the NBA’s newest big rivalry to continue.

A common argument you’ll hear from non-OKC fans goes something like, “OKC fans think fans of all the 29 other teams are just wrong.” This is because they *are* wrong. I urge people to stop falling for one of the most basic logical fallacies out there
This is a ridiculous idea for a really smart person to openly suggest. When you’re an NBA star as big as SGA, you have enough lawyers to make these things go away automatically. I’d be fairly certain he’s still never heard of this game
Bill Simmons: “Do you think all the negative national discourse on OKC's flopping tweaked how SGA played a little bit over the course of this series in a negative way?”
Zach Lowe: “I think the tipping point for me was when Underdog Sports made that fake Operation game, and then they got a cease and desist letter from SGA’s attorneys or something like that. I was like, okay, I wonder if this shrieking noise is in his head at all.”

“To show the Iraqi people how I play football and to play for them, to play for the nation, and to play at the World Cup is a dream."
For Nashville SC’s Ahmed Qasem, representing Iraq in its first World Cup since 1986 means more than he can describe:

I really don’t understand how people don’t like SGA’s game. That fadeaway was just beautiful. His ability to just get to his spot and get any shot he wants it’s special.
In the end, OKC’s injuries were too much to overcome. Full credit to the Spurs but the shape of this series was very different without J-Dub and Ajay Mitchell. The lack of ball-handling and scoring outside of SGA was massive tonight.
The series was always going to come down to the role players. Spurs guys showed up.
I loved every single second of this series. Hope that Game 7 performance quells some of the noise around SGA.
But it was a phenomenal series from the Spurs. A young team had to figure out how to win against the best of the best. Genuinely pantheon stuff.
No JDub or Ajay, SGA showed why he won MVP tonight. For this to be the rivalry that defines the NBA for the next 10 years, Spurs gotta win some. Will be nice to breathe while watching the Finals this year
Daigneault is never going to take Dort out of the starting lineup so I don't even think about it most of the time, but it's wild that he's chill about willingly taking a 6-8 point deficit to start the game this whole series
Here’s the thing: the KD-Russ duo had maybe 2 real shots at a title and 3 taken away by injuries. 2013 they had the best net rating in the league, even better than the Heat. To a fan of a title-winning team, there’s no such thing as inconclusive
I'll admit this seeps into my mind a bit too. I almost view the 2025 Finals as inconclusive because of the way they ended. In the back of my mind... I just think Indiana was gonna win. So seeing SGA and the Thunder try to win one on the back foot a year later feels meaningful.
