@Dana256B Great point Dana. I would also see DH as both a service and a scholarship. However, I think as DH becomes more accessible with the increased awareness of technology, it would shift to being a service more than a scholar’s work. #ENGL256BF21#DH
Dr. @krmaude mentioned an interviewing process that was used in an orchestra to reduce gender discrimination. They had all candidates play behind a curtain. The result showed that much more females were recruited compared to the traditional process. #ENGL256BF21
If a company releases a report showing that they have an equal amount of female and male employees. However, they underpay women. Would they really have achieved gender equality? Or simply they are misrepresenting the data to their advantage? #ENGL256BF21
While working on the Data and Visualization project, I came across a digital tool called Gapminder. This tool was used to highlight gender discrimination through the number of children that are forced into child marriage.

Did you know that for every 0.5 dollars a woman makes a man makes 1 dollar? This is a 50% lower salary for women globally, which is totally unacceptable. When will we grow out of the stereotypes and finally give women the salary they deserve? https://t.co/mSVqUKTplB

Last week we had a very fruitful conversation with Dr. @krmaude about women in the workplace. We were discussing the female mentorship programs that some companies offer to reduce gender discrimination in the interview process. I feel that this is a great initiative! #ENGL256BF21
Voyant and AntConc taught us a lot about Letitia Elizabeth Landon’s style of writing. She offered very unusual romantic poetry, linking emotions to sexual representations in her poems. It was great working on this project with @BassamLeia@Dana256B!

The presentation today done on #imageanalysis was very fruitful. It highlighted examples of images that carry gender stereotypes. Moreover, I learned how digital tools could help exposing the gender discrimination present in some images. Great presentation!

@Dana256B Nice observation Dana, I completely agree. Sometimes data is manipulated to represent false information. This especially happens in the workplace, where data is being used to "prove" gender parity, but in reality, gender discrimination is still present. #ENGL256BF21
@PSalameh34 Based on some research, I believe more data should be collected on the LGBTQ+ community, that way, we could really assess if the measures and changes done by societies are really positively impacting this community. You can check this article! https://t.co/3BjrrlxAzw #ENGL256BF21
Today I participated in the AUB Edit-a-Thon, where I helped bridge the gender gap present in Wikipedia. This was done by introducing the names of Lebanese female artists and notable AUB alumni to the Wikipedia portal. #CCCCWI#gendergap
After this week’s reading, I was introduced to DH GIS and its benefits on our daily life. This digital humanities tool is focused on analyzing data to generate maps. The exciting thing is that this discipline still improving and expanding! #ENGL256BF21#DH#GIS
@BassamLeia Couldn’t agree more. We could also learn from the West on the procedure for developing text mining software (probably bring in experts to the region). It’s crucial to introduce Arabic text mining to the region, as it will be a major asset to the Arab education sector.#ENG256BF21
I believe that DH needs to be implemented optimally in the Arab world. DH has the potential to close the gender gap in the region, make foreign literature accessible to all, and provide a platform for Arab female authors to publish their work freely.

I was searching for gender-specific words on Voyant. First, the results showed that there is almost an equal frequency of words for both genders. However, after investigating, I found that the result was misinterpreted, as most of the words were associated with men. #ENGL256BF21
After using Google N-Gram, EEBO N-Gram, and US Novel Corpus. I found that the most accurate browser was US Novel Corpus, because it indicates the paragraph and reference the desired word was found in. Hence, providing a more accurate search engine.

Fiction writing tells us a lot about gender. It was mentioned in "Metamorphoses of Gender" that the number of female characters in fiction is proportionally related to the number of female writers. This proves that most male writers prefer to exclude female characters.#ENGL256BF21
The great unread is related directly to gender. By definition, the great unread describes reading materials that have not yet been reviewed by scholars. So, which gender suffers mostly from the great unread? In other words, which gender gets their work overlooked?
