One of the biggest lies we've been taught about Israel, and one that is still widely believed on social media, is this: “Jews came from Europe and took our land.”

My response: While it's true that some Jews came from Europe, others were native to the land, and many came from neighboring Arab countries due to persecution and pogroms. They didn’t take the land from the Arabs; they re-established a state in their historical homeland. In fact, it was the Arabs who invaded the region in the 7th century and expanded an empire across the Middle East and North Africa.

There was never a state called Palestine. After the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the British mandate, new states like Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon were forming. The Jews, like other peoples in the region, wanted a state of their own. They no longer wanted to live under Muslim rule as a minority or as **dhimmis** (second-class citizens). Arabs didn’t like this, and since the day Israel declared its independence, they have attempted to eliminate it. While they have never succeeded, they have continued trying, and today’s conflict is just another cycle of this ongoing process.
