It was an honour to deliver my maiden speech as the MP for the area I grew up in.
It’s the place that made me who I am today, but I refuse to solely talk about our community in the past tense.
I will fight to make sure kids born today grow up in places of opportunity and hope.
The worst thing the Conservatives did was taking away hope from young people.
Hope that if you work hard, you can build a better life.
Today I spoke in the Chamber about the generational inequalities my generation has faced.
This generation is more connected than ever, but also more isolated.
We’re changing that by rebuilding youth services so that every young person has a trusted adult and a place where they belong.

We were delighted to share our school with @JadeBotterill, MP for Ossett, this afternoon. Over afternoon tea, our Junior Leadership Team chatted to her about life in school and her role in parliament.
Remember when the Tories boasted that they were taking money from the poorest areas to give to the richest?
Here’s the Labour difference a Labour Government makes: more money for areas with greatest poverty to tackle health inequalities.

For too long, our honours system has overlooked certain sports, regions, and communities.
We’ve begun the work to put that right — but there’s still more to do.

Really pleased to meet with the APPG for Rugby League in Parliament.
Grateful for their strong support as part of the campaign that led to Sir Billy Boston being knighted this week - a legend of rugby league and a trailblazer in British sport.
Sir Billy Boston’s knighthood is a historic moment which honours the greatest player Rugby League has ever seen.
It’s a proud day for Wigan, for Rugby League fans across the country, but most importantly, for Billy and his family.

Billy Boston is a true trailblazer who has contributed hugely to rugby league.
It’s a historic wrong that a sport which is the backbone of many communities has waited so long to receive this honour.
Boston is a legend of the game who overcame prejudice to represent Great Britain and opened the door to a more diverse game.
He has left a truly enduring legacy. The first knighthood in rugby league could not go to a more deserving player.
This is the moment we right a historic wrong and recognise the contribution rugby league has made to our national life.
Thank you Sir Billy Boston - for so long the pride of Wigan, Wales and rugby league - for being a trailblazer, always

500,000 kids to benefit; 100,000 lifted out of poverty. Good for attainment, good for attendance and good for nutrition. Extremely proud of this change, that only a Labour Government would make.
Thank you to the police and emergency services for their swift response to the truly shocking and horrendous scenes in Liverpool this evening.
Thinking of all those affected at this very difficult time. The police are investigating and I’m being kept updated on developments
The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected.
I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident.
I’m being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate.
When the North thrives, the whole country thrives.
When the North succeeds, the country succeeds.
I am genuinely excited, and looking forward, to continuing our work together to make it happen.
