Its not that CGI has gotten worse or regressed, its that artists don't have a VFX union to prevent companies from scouring the lowest bid on VFX companies to get their projects done cheaply and quickly.

Every other hollywood sect has some form of guild or union to keep them from being taken advantage of, but not vfx artists.
