If we continue to allow wild spaces to become so fragmented, these tragedies will keep on happening. We've learned this lesson many times, in many places. Elephants tell us such a great deal about the health of a landscape. When things start going wrong for them, it's usually a sign that something deeper is going wrong around them too. https://t.co/7uquXkS1Yp
Today, on Africa Day, more than just a date is being celebrated. It is the unity, resilience, and infinite richness of the continent that are being honored.
From the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean, cultures, histories, and dreams bring people together. Africa is not simply rising… it is awakening.

@NatGeo@DisneyPlus@hulu Happy birthday! Sir David Attenborough!
Thank you for teaching us so much about our beautiful planet!
I have enjoyed learning and being in awe of Nature and it's simplicity and complexity!
Partially funded by the National Geographic Society, Project ICARUS is an ambitious effort to monitor thousands of animals simultaneously. Using its data, scientists hope to track diseases, predict natural disasters, and more. 🔗 https://t.co/TQx23hDKr7
Our planet is a wondrous solar powerhouse 🌞✨ For billions of years, plants have been capturing sunlight and turning it into life—nature’s own incredible energy magic! #StepIntoWonder#OneStrangeRock is now streaming on @DisneyPlus and @hulu.
This Earth Month, Maejor partnered with National Geographic for his new album Earth Moods: Frequencies (Vol. 1). With a track designed for restoration and clarity, take in the beauty of the ocean and its residents.
Spotted hyenas are a powerful example of the resilience and strength found in nature. For wildlife ecologist, conservation scientist, and National Geographic Explorer Dr. Christine Wilkinson, these reminders are what wonder is all about.
#StepIntoWonder with National Geographic’s #EarthMonth collection on @DisneyPlus.
First documented case of an insect killing adult baobab trees. This could have grave consequences if the beetle spreads to Africa. "Stronger biosecurity inspections & other measures are needed to stop the beetle crossing borders." https://t.co/kVheuG2MeX
That's what we have to do... we MUST
But, the question is... what can we do right now? you & me, in an hour?, in the street, at home?, n three hours?, n the afternoon, at night, tomorrow?, nxt Monday, nxt week, nxt month?, by government, by businessmen❓
And that's why @outofedenwalk has been a "very brave" project as @PaulSalopek has acted as our great leader 👏🏻 in the most important walk, probably of this century... 🌍🚶🏻♂️
National Geographic Explorer Paul Salopek has been picked up enough times by police, self-deputized gangs and immigration officials that he's created a map of all these encounters.

New research suggests that Africa’s forests, long seen as a powerful buffer against climate change, are now adding carbon to the atmosphere rather than removing it. https://t.co/EwWXpJ8RNL
#PPOD: Deception Island 🌋
On 17 March 2023, one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites captured this rare cloud-free image of Deception Island.
Deception Island is an active volcanic caldera located in the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. It has long been the focus of intense interest from both tourists and researchers because of its remarkable geology and unique ecological characteristics.
The island boasts a horseshoe-shaped caldera, a distinguishing feature formed by a large volcanic eruption approximately 10,000 years ago. This caldera creates a unique, sheltered harbour that has previously served as a natural haven for whaling and sealing ships.
Moreover, the caldera's shape provides a protective barrier from strong winds and currents, creating a microclimate that supports a rich and diverse ecosystem.

When we tear nature apart, the consequences hitch a ride home with us. Ticks on trafficked pangolins carry diseases that can leap between species. https://t.co/SejIEgcetp
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the moment lava spewed from Hawaii’s Kilauea on Sunday.
The lava is contained within the summit crater inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and isn't threatening homes or buildings.
