@LabNotta@UHN@OICR_news Our paper on “Transcriptomic classes of BCR-ABL1 lymphoblastic leukemia” is finally published! Congrats to the Notta lab and everyone involved. To highlight some of the main findings..
Taken together, we proposed the “cell-of-transformation” model of BCR-ABL1 lymphoblastic leukemia, in which a transformation event specific to a B-cell progenitor stage dictates resultant leukemic phenotype and resistance/susceptibility to therapy.
While leukemias across subtypes shared IKZF1 loss, a predictor of poor response, we saw differences in outcome: Early < Inter < Late-Pro. Mechanisms of therapy resistance, independent of ABL1 mutation, included cell quiescence, STAT5 signaling, and unfolded protein response.
