Flood ready communities: Community members in Abal 5 IDP Camp in Baidoa are taking action to prepare for potential flooding.
Working together, community members identified flood risks and agreed to create channels to direct floodwater away from the camp. They also provided plastic sheets to help cover and protect families’ makeshift shelters.
By planning and leading these activities, the community is taking practical steps to reduce flood risks and protect lives and property.

Through the AARAN project, communities in Baidoa are preparing for the projected 2026 Deyr El Niño floods. Their plans include evacuation and relocation where needed.
Nineteen communities have each received a $5,000 Group Cash Transfer (GCT); a total of $95,000. Funded by @FCDOGovUK, this flexible financing mechanism enables communities to lead early actions based on their own priorities.
Below clip shows Nasiib community leaders raising awareness and organising collective action ahead of the floods.

#ElNiño could bring below-average rainfall to #Somalia in 2026, increasing risks of drought, water shortages, food insecurity and displacement.
Children are often hit hardest.
Early action, early warning and preparedness can help protect lives.

💧 Through the Somalia Joint Response (SOMJR) Project, we rehabilitated a strategic hand-pump shallow well in Moqor iyo Maayo-2 IDP Camp, Baidoa, improving access to safer and more reliable water for more than 500 households.
The water was chlorinated and tested for quality with support from the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of SWS, helping to ensure safer water for the community.
The rehabilitated shallow well was officially handed over to the community in the presence of government representatives.
A Water Management Committee was established and trained on water point maintenance, water safety, hygiene, and prevention of waterborne diseases to support the continued functionality of the water source.
We sincerely thank @OxfamSomali for its partnership and the @DutchRelief for funding this important intervention.

In Baidoa, 200 families are growing their own food again 🌱 @GREDOsomalia is delivering perma-gardening training under the #URBANISE Programme with BRCiS Consortium, supported by the @DanishMFA / @DKinSomalia.
🎥 In #Diinsor District, the #SHIP Consortium Project helped vulnerable families recover through integrated health, nutrition, WASH, and Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) interventions.
Through the project, we rehabilitated WASH infrastructure at Hilaal Health Centre and Diinsoor General Hospital, including 8 toilets, 2 solar-powered boreholes, a water reservoir, a placenta pit, an incinerator, 32 waste bins, and handwashing facilities, improving access to safe water, sanitation, and quality healthcare services.
In addition, 600 vulnerable households with children affected by severe acute malnutrition and measles received Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) following referrals from @WVSomalia Hilaal Health Centre, while 1,000 TSFP beneficiaries referred through the health centre received hygiene kits to support improved hygiene and nutrition practices.

Robey Ibrahim Mohamed, a 35-year-old mother of 11 children is originally from Barawey village, approximately 85 kilometres from Diinsoor. She now lives in Warabow IDP Camp in Diinsoor District after prolonged drought devastated her family's livelihood, wiped out their livestock, and forced them to leave their home in search of safety and assistance.
During their displacement, one of her children, Quresho Mohamed (18 months), contracted measles and received treatment at the @WVSomalia’s Hilaal Health Centre in Diinsoor. Following her child's treatment, Robey's household was among 600 vulnerable households referred by World Vision to GREDO to receive Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) for families with children affected by severe acute malnutrition and measles.
Through the #SHIP Consortium, funded by @eu_echo and implemented by @gredosom in partnership with @OxfamSomali, Robey's household received USD 100 per month for three months. The cash assistance enabled the family to purchase food, meet essential household needs, and support their child's recovery.
Today, Quresho has fully recovered from measles and is once again able to eat well, regain strength, and play happily with other children.
For families like Robey's, timely cash assistance provides more than financial support, it restores hope, protects dignity, and helps families recover during times of crisis. #HopeInAction
