There have been a lot of questions and concerns regarding Steam security lately, so here's an overview that hopefully covers all of those.
If something is unclear, feel free to ask, though note that I may not be able to answer everything.
@SRTI_RS@JagexAsh@JagexSupport They will only read what applies to the offense you’re appealing in the appeal. Other offenses either have their own appeal option, or if they don’t, they are not meant to be appealable.
@freetheopps@XarovRs@JagexSupport I’m sorry for the delay, I’ve been incredibly busy IRL :\
It’s likely that your auth saved the day. A password change without email change means the email was compromised. Odd that the auth survived that but it did 🤷🏼♀️
Did you check your linked social media& remove unknown links?
@XarovRs@freetheopps@JagexSupport Hey, it depends on what the issue is tbh, so far I can’t find what they exactly need help with in their previous tweets. What’s going on?
@IHideKeys @JagexHelpFrost @JagexSupport Hi Keys, that has been tried in the past and was discontinued as everyone who bought their account back just went right back to rulebreaking. As rules are not intended for poor people only, the pay-for-unban trial was stopped.
@PK_Blane @JagexSupport Hey, first: I didn’t have anything to do with you or your ban, not sure why I’m told to be ashamed for it.
Anyways. The reply you got ‘muted, not banned’ was an email reply. Since then there’s a new offense system. Check your account settings and see if it says ‘appealable’
@JonT604@Wollesosrs@JagexSupport Correct - considering you both had pretty much the same request, I combined & pressed for both of you at the same time so it's easier to process. That's why I gave you similar replies: the answer I got applied to both of you
@Wollesosrs@JagexSupport Hey Wolles, to update you on this: the Jmod who responded to me expressed Jagex does not want to provide more info, despite me pressing a few times. They did look into the account & are very experienced, so if there was indeed a problem, they will have made sure to fix it
@JonT604 Hey, to update you on this: the Jmod who responded to me expressed Jagex does not want to provide more info here, despite me pressing a few times. They did look into this account though & are very experienced, so if there was indeed a problem, they will have made sure to fix it.
@JonT604 Hey Jon, I'm at this moment in the process of getting clarification for both you and another player on this matter, but it takes some more nagging from me than usual. I would like to give you a clear answer, but right now I can't :|
@HealthcareOSRS There's been an uptick in players thinking they were recovered after a well-known player with a heavily contested account get recovered. In pretty much all cases the players were hijacked through the email instead, or knew exactly how & what info got compromised. Keep me posted.
@HealthcareOSRS If you do not recognize yourself in that, it's very unlikely that this was a recovery and that it was your email instead. Focus on account & email security first and remove every social media link. Let me know though if you've done all that and you get hijacked again. 2/2
@HealthcareOSRS You experienced yourself what a recovery requires, and such info is not pulled out of thin air. Those who are involved with a recovery tug of war tend to know why; either an account was bought, shared like no tomorrow, or they leaked a document with all their recovery info. 1/?
@Wollesosrs@JagexSupport It depends on when the Jmod looking after my flags checks in. Support is on fire right now with the release of fresh start worlds, so it’s hard to give an estimate. Might be tomorrow, might also be later in the week :\
@Wollesosrs@JagexSupport Messing with recovery info without need just harms the account owner, so let's prevent that. I'm going get a confirm on the cause of the 2nd hijack. If not a recovery, re-secure pc & again set a new email.
If it was a recovery, or if you get hijacked again, I'll bug anticheating
@Wollesosrs@JagexSupport Even if some recovery info was leaked during your first hijack, it's unlikely the second hijack is the result of that. Therefor the presence/extent of leaked recovery info is unclear and it's hard to say what you can expect. So here's the plan: 1/2
