Willowbrook. Before Rivera did an expose this institution designed for 4000 held 6000 disabled humans. Conditions and questionable medical practices and experiments prompted US Senator Robert F. Kennedy to call it a "snake pit"
This is what our state legislature would like to go back to. They see disabled children as a drain on society. Doing everything they can to avoid their civic responsibility to make sure these children are safe and cared for properly.
Away from their home and their family who cares for them over 90% will be sexually abused. 90%…. The party that screams illegal immigration drives the sex traffic industry.. wants to rip these children away from the safety of their families and put them right in the hands of those that would take advantage of their disability for sexual gratification.
We have a system in this country, when legislatures fail to take care of their responsibilities when they refuse to listen to the will of their constituents, you don’t have to wait till the next election. You can recall and fire them now! And that’s just what we are doing, representative @Livingston4AZ , @MatthewGress , @MichaelCarbone and @SteveMontenegro failed to act in good faith to take care of these children, conspiring to be bipartisan legislation, using these children to try to gain points against the governor. This is the breakdown of the pro-life movement- the movement I have supported since I was a young child, continued to support by volunteering in crisis pregnancy centers/choices, and ultimately dedicated my entire life to by adopting a child with disabilities. Not everyone is in the position adopt a profoundly disabled child and daily live out the conviction of the prolife moment- but how DARE you rise against and betray those of us who have done so bringing credibility to the ideals you relentlessly espouse to! You have exactly ZERO credibility as a pro life politician - insisting that life begins at conception and continues until natural death- only to turn around to deny the most disabled people, CITIZENS OF ARIZONA, life saving care because it cramps your bloated sense of financial entitlement and makes you uncomfortable. You are not going to get away with this. You who claim to fear God should tremble from head to toe at the idea of facing Him before you remedy this utter hypocrisy within yourselves and repent of the oppression you are raining down on the very people who have dedicated their LIVES to live out your pro-life slogan.

It’s me again 👋 actually the @AZHouseGOP is refusing to issue DDD gap funding for services that are already deemed legally and medically necessary by the state of AZ. They are doing this because they accuse @katiehobbs of expanding services for DDD without appropriately consulting legislature- which is a lie.

I actually have emailed repeatedly and I call them every day too. Democratic legislators will respond to me, but not conservatives who I’ve always supported. I do have a a couple meetings lined up with them next week, but so far the representatives I’ve talked to are completely ignorant on the subjects they’re voting on- and they admit it. Most of them don’t even understand the state contracts for the 1115 waiver of our state… and yet they are the ones withholding the funding that keeps our kids alive and able to live at home. The real decision-makers Montenegro, Kavanaugh, etc. won’t give me the time of day. If it weren’t for the Democratic legislators, our voices would never have been heard on the house floor. It’s honestly been heartbreaking.

Sadly, our own Arizona legislature isn’t upholding the state’s legal responsibility to fund disabled services they are legally obligated to provide and gaslighting a lot of Arizona conservatives into believing that it’s Hobb’s fault. As a lifelong conservative voter (up until this point) I wish I still had the confidence in AZ conservatives lawmakers to honor families, life and God. Thank you for the thoughtful conversation, I wish you well.

I agree that there needs to be reform. My understanding is that the department of education is who holds the states to that level of accountability with existing IDEA law. I would just love to know what safeguards we’ve put in place before we take a sledgehammer to infrastructure that has supported the vulnerable US citizens

I think what you’re saying makes a lot of sense but right now Arizona Republican legislature is refusing to provide funding for services legally and medically deemed necessary for children who qualify for institutionalized care. Why would we trust those people to manage money well for a vulnerable population?

Right now the Arizona legislator won’t even provide gap funding for DDD and they want/services to children to reduce the cost by 25 to 50%. Why would we assume they would protect IDEA?
