@SarahCaufield @psyc220 Sarah I think this is an awesome goal. I know from personal experience with my brother that good in school psychologist would be supper helpful for people with disabilities because the systems that are in place right now are very unhelpful in many cases.
My goal in this is to cultivate an open relationship with my kids where I am a guide that sets up wide barriers so I can protect them but also allow them free range of who they truly are and want to be.
#CD7 @psyc220 One goal that I have that I feel like is systematically screwed up is being a parent. I was lucky to have very kind, open, and understanding parents but the more I talk to people the more I realize that isn’t always the case.
My cycle is to stop this perpetual cycle of control and suppression that many parents use. I think the reason people are so divided today is because they are taught from an early age that every it black and white because their parents were so opinionated.
@olivianedd7800 @psyc220 I agree Olivia, ses has a bigger impact than most people realize on multiple aspects of life, especially access to help for the disabled.
because they are stuck in that loop. If this person does not have a job based on discrimination then they may not be eligible to get a credit card and build a score. If they can not build a credit score that in turn disqualifies them from many other things.
@psyc220 #CD6 Socioeconomic status intersects with race and makes life a lot harder than many realize. It can turn into a cycle that is hard to break out of. If someone is disproportionately ignored in job settings, cant make money, then they have no access to recourses simply
#220Ethics @psyc220 I would say that this is an appeal to the ethic of community. He is praising the men and women who have served their role in the community by defending our country.
For generations, Americans have answered the call to serve—taking the sacred oath to defend our ideals of liberty and democracy. These patriots represent the best of us. On Veterans Day, we honor their service, dedication, and valor and are forever grateful for their sacrifice.
#CD5b @psyc220 This "inspiration porn" the subject of the inspiration is taken away from the disabled child and focused instead on able-bodied people. This is similar to society at a whole since the world is built with able-bodied people in mind and rarely thinking of others.
#CD5a @psyc220 One way that the university creates barriers for disabled students is through the lack of handicap accessible ramps or elevators. One example is the ISAT building, if someone is coming from the village they would have to go around the building to avoid the stairs
@SarahCaufield @psyc220 #CD4 @psyc220 Sarah I totally agree. I think that feminism is almost unique in its ability to use intersectionality to help other minorities.
@ChloeSwan17 @psyc220 #CD4 @psyc220 I agree with you and tweeted a similar idea. Feminism is more than just rights for women, in part because there are women in almost every time of minority who are all fighting to further rights for all.
This also shows how solidarity has already sort of been built between feminists and other minority groups. Gender transcends these lines and in many ways they share the same struggles because they have roots in many of them.
@psyc220 #CD4 Because women have long experienced oppression they have a good footing in history from which to pull from in the fight for equality for other minorities. This is further backed by the fact that gender goes beyond racial, ethnic, and sexual discrimination.
@ChloeSwan17 @psyc220 #CB3a wow that’s actually very interesting I’d never thought of it that way but that seems to be spot on with the way white people think, especially in America.
@olivianedd7800 @psyc220 Yea. For some reason people find it easier to think of people outside their culture or race as the “other” and dehumanize them rather than be accepting of new cultures and ideas. #CB3b
#CB3b @psyc220 this is the kind of rhetoric that reinforces the racist ideas associated with Hispanic immigrants. Using terms like “alien” just further divides the public with this negative connotation that makes you think of them as the “other”.
I think one reason so many people try to deny the idea of racism is in part because some people believe it will go away if left alone but also because it makes people uncomfortable. If it is acknowledged then you agree you are doing something wrong in the eyes of society.
#CD3a @psyc220 It is hard to argue against the feelings of another person especially when you have no idea how it feels to be in their shoes. Obviously it is very frustrating when the tables are turned and others deny things that you know to be true in your own life.
