@Falcon0nX Not for good reasons! FTSE100 winners are banking (very slow to pass on interest-hikes to consumers), industrial/defence (Ukraine war), and mining (an unusual spike in gold & silver prices recently). These are mostly one-off events. Not a reflection of long-term growth/economy.
@JamesP728 Don’t you pay exchange fees everytime you purchase units if you’re British? Wouldn’t $VUAG make more sense - Venguarf’s S&P500 index in GBP?
@DividendDrip S&P500 driven by tech. FTSE100 driven by finance, mining and defence. UK stocks massively benefitted from rate increases (banks didn’t pass rates onto savers), massive rise in gold and silver prices, and Ukraine/Russian threat leading to greater defence spending. One-off events.
@ChrisJBakke So to answer the question: those people probably could have easily walked or taken the subway, but took the comfiest option. Put a small barrier in the way to make someone think twice, and they’ll either choose alternative option OR not make what is likely an unnecessary trip.
@ChrisJBakke It’s not about money. In UK we implemented a 5p tax on plastic grocery bags and usage has plummeted. Everyone can afford to pay it, but the charge makes people think twice. Congestion charge in London is the same - it works because it makes people stop and think of alternatives.

It should be illegal to advertise residential leasehold properties for sale without the lease information displayed (years left, ground rent, maintenance fees etc). Agents hiding this info only leads to a waste of everyone’s time when looking at properties to buy.
Day 1 of my new business venture. No ads yet, just organic social media posts (TikTok, Instagram Reels). Feeling very excited about this one… product fills a huge underserved need.
@edd_saunders Painful! I once got a developer to make an online journey with bunch of questions. After paying for 1,000+ leads to it I then wanted to know/use the answers they’d provided. No, the developer only saved the name & email address… thought the questions were just engagement bait 🫠
All these long-term employees leaving Twitter because their new boss told them they need to work hard? Just shows how much the culture needed changing, which is what Elon’s doing. He’ll 10x performance with 1/5th of the people… winners will stay and they’ll attract new talent.
If I read another “increasing interest rates are great for savers” sentence on @BBCNews I’m going to 🤯… whilst correct in theory, in reality no UK bank is passing these increasing rates on! We’re all still getting peanuts, despite the significantly more expensive borrowing.
This “mini” budget is anything but mini! It feels like such an extreme gamble. If it pays off, amazing, but it’s hard to fathom how emptying the treasury at a time when public services need extra funding, and cost of living is spiralling, is a sensible idea. Wait and see I guess!
@plaguegirll If we’re talking a DA situation, where someone needs to gather evidence for a get-out-of-jail-free card then that’s slightly different, and agree my statement is more geared towards everyday relationships. Usually, tackling issues when they arise is best for solving the issue.
Enjoyed this book at the weekend, do recommend. It clearly demonstrates how people will always try to avoid talking about the most important issues, waiting until it’s too late. This viral tweet is an example of how *not* to communicate, and how many therapists don’t have a clue.
