Thanks for the great chats - enjoy the rest of your summer! #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

I really enjoyed the book as well - I specifically liked hearing that other teachers thought so similar to me after reading it! #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

I agree - being supportive and understanding is crucial for student development. I think this book helped explain that in detail #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

@js19015 She teaches in a much better school now and is much happier! :) #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

@js19015 I think that's great! I am fortunate to be able to do the same. My wife would tell stories of students forcibly passed. #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

@js19015 I agree! My wife taught in a title 1 school and was told to "get them to pass" even if they shouldn't have. #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

@CarmenH09000255 @js19015 I completely agree with you both. A child's character is largely determined by the parents. #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

@CarmenH09000255 But it is almost impossible to enforce what parents haven't instilled in their children to begin with. #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

@CarmenH09000255 I see the same at my school at times. I think schools can partner and reinforce what parents teach at home. #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

Do you guys think that the author's suggestion of teaching "Character Education" would be effective in solving this problem? #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

What did you guys think about "Rethinking Secondary Education" on pg. 148? #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

I have certainly heard this from students and seen it before in their actions. #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

Awesome chat everyone, I really enjoyed it. I'll see you next time! #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

@js19015 I guess so, but I do not think it is the only factor. #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

@js19015 Both have opposite personalities and different experiences with peers growing up #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

@js19015 My wife and her sister are complete opposites - and while one is more wild than the other - both understand limitations #ageofopp

[James Byrd @JamesByrd80]

@js19015 I agree with you that it is a mixture of nature and nurture, but parenting plays a very large role. There are exceptions #ageofopp
