And yet, we let the activists responsible for the failure to keep setting policy.
"Walking through Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, it’s horrifyingly clear that decades of efforts to help the residents of the impoverished neighbourhood, however well meaning, have been a failure."
Read that again: “Continues to present a significant threat to the public.”
Those aren’t my words. They’re the BC Review Board’s while simultaneously granting Allan Schoenborn a conditional discharge.
If someone who killed their three children is still considered a significant threat to the public, why is the system granting greater freedoms instead of greater protection for the public?
Victims deserve better. The public deserves better. And for all the talk about change, the status quo prevails.
While patrolling Stanley Park, our bike officers helped a tourist who had fallen from an e-scooter and couldn't move. With paramedics on the way, the officers ran 1 km to a lifeguard station, retrieved the wagon, and safely transported her to an accessible location so she could receive timely medical care. #ServeWithCompassion #VPD
Despite the City's efforts and repeated calls for action, the Province has still not followed through on its commitment to remove the provincially operated SROs from Granville Street. At the same time, it continues to pursue plans for a drug consumption site at 900 Helmcken.
Councillor Peter Meiszner met down with Alan Goodall, owner of Aura Nightclub, to hear firsthand how repeated flooding and ongoing issues associated with the nearby provincially operated SRO have affected his business. Alan shared just how difficult it has been to operate and invest in downtown while dealing with these ongoing challenges.
Your ABC Vancouver team believes downtown Vancouver should be a safe, vibrant place where people can visit, enjoy a night out, support local businesses, and where business owners can operate with confidence.
We're committed to continuing the work of making Vancouver safe and affordable, revitalizing our entertainment district, and standing up for the businesses, residents, and workers who make downtown such an important part of our city.

@internet_paolo The fact that nothing happened isn’t proof they weren’t needed, it’s proof everyone did their job effectively. Easy to mock from the sidelines.
@CTVVancouver The real test won’t be what’s written in the legislation, but how it’s interpreted and applied by the courts. Meaningful change requires consistent judicial application, not just new laws.

Interesting how some are quick to criticize, instead of thinking…
Just 2 officers doing a bar check, part of their regular duties, or
Wanting to get out of the heat for a few minutes, or
Taking a break & getting hydrated after walking the beat & carrying 30-40 lb of gear, or
Just caught up in the #FIFA excitement & went in to catch the score, like most in the city.
So where’s the issue? 🤷🏽♂️

- Many of the officers working FIFA haven’t had a day off for the past month.
- They work at least 11-13 hrs/day, away from their families, so fans can safely enjoy their FIFA experience.
- Most log on 15-20,000+ steps/day.

As the final FIFA World Cup match wraps up in Vancouver, thank you to everyone who made our city shine - the volunteers, first responders, organizers, hospitality workers, local businesses, and the thousands of fans who brought incredible energy to our streets.
As MLA for Vancouver-Yaletown, I’m proud that we’re keeping the momentum going by extending FIFA-related patios and the Granville Street Pedestrian Zone through the summer, helping local businesses welcome more customers while giving everyone more opportunities to enjoy our downtown.
Thank you, Vancouver, for showing the world the very best of our city.
1st 1040 and now 650.
This is what happens when you don’t have local ownership.
They never cared about the people or the city, just profit.
After Donnie and Dhali, the best part of my week was my hit with Halford and Brough.
Just a horrible day.
And we're told by justice 'experts' that we have to just tolerate this as inevitable:
"Sex offender with high risk of reoffending being released from prison"

@ThomasDigby1 Not that facts matter to you, but for major West Coast cities the average percentage of city budgets set aside for policing range from 25-35%. Portland, for example, is about 30%.
Vancouver has one of the lowest percentages for a major city.
@iamkennethchan@DailyHiveVan The costs would be lower if NDP and left wing councillors didn’t okay a bunch of SROs on and next to a street that is for entertainment, bars, shows etc. if they want to point fingers they should turn that hand around and point back at themselves.
We’re investing billions in expanding our ports, yet we still don’t have a dedicated port police service. At a time when fentanyl trafficking, organized crime and smuggling remain major concerns, that gap deserves far more attention. @MayorHarvie
WATCH: A shipping port in Delta is now the centre of attention as we learn more details about the multi-billion dollar deal B.C. made with the federal government and the proposed pipeline to our coast. Cecilia Hua reports. https://t.co/2B6hjLpx5d
ISSUE: We have people addicted to deadly toxic drugs.
BC: Let’s create huge areas (even near families & tourists) filled w/ toxic drugs, assaults, sexual assaults, feces, rats, death.
YRS LATER: Did it. Things got worse.
BC: We must need more of those areas. Create more!
Every day officers across B.C. deal with situations that have nothing to do with crime, yet everything to do with public safety. This is another reminder of the value policing brings & how much society relies on police to respond to whatever comes next.
VPD officers in the area of Vanness and Boundary are working to contain an immature bear while waiting for conservation officers to attend. The bear is currently “chilling on a patio” under the watchful eye of police. Police are working to keep both the public and the bear safe while reminding residents to give wildlife plenty of space and avoid approaching or feeding animals. 🐻🚓 #PublicSafety #WildlifeSafety #BearAware #PawsAndOrder 🐾🚓
@TepperBryan@BCConservCaucus Two major issues, among many: 1) Catch-and-release justice continues to undermine the work of frontline officers. 2) The Police Act complaints process is being weaponized by criminals, yet the Province and the OPCC, with an $11 million budget, have done little to stop it.
When the world comes to Vancouver, every role matters.
Whether you're directing traffic as a Traffic Authority Member, supporting public safety as a Special Municipal Constable, or serving on the front lines as a Police Constable, you'll be part of the team that helps keep our city safe during its biggest moments.
No two days are the same. Every shift has purpose. Every role makes an impact.
